LA county Relief nurse 2013

Hello all :) I applied to a relief nurse 1 position with LA county. I then got a letter in the mail sayng my application had been accepted and i was scheduled for the "examination." I took the test, passed the test, and got another letter in the mail about two months after my test saying I had passed and that my name will be placed in an "eligibility list." What now? Does any one know what happens after this process? Thank you all so much! any info is appreciated. I did get a call from Harbor UCLA and filled out some paper work and got scheduled for an interview. But is this test for all LA county nurse jobs? What has your experience been like? I also heard something about a verbal exam/ interview? what is that?

All California county positions put you on an eligible list and are ranked based off experience etc. The lower the number the better I think... I forget it's been a while

They'll contact you but the process usually takes several months. I'm sure there are more threads regarding county positions here

Being on the eligibility list means that you are now "eligible" for the next step in the LA County hiring process, which is the selection interview. Being on the eligibility list for Relief Nurse also means you can apply and interview at any County facility hiring for that position. Selection interviews are unit specific and usually done by the nurse manager. You might have selection interviews at a few different hospitals and/or for a few different units at one hospital before you get a job offer, or you may get a job offer after your first selection interview.

Definitely do NOT wait for the hospitals to contact you -- contact the nurse recruitment department for any of the hospitals/facilities you are interested in working at and let them know you are interested in interviewing for any open Relief Nurse positions they have. I have worked in the County system for awhile now and have seen that people who show interest and stay in contact with the nurse recruiters are the people who get called for selection interviews.

Save the letter stating that you are on the eligibility list for Relief Nurse, the recruiters will probably want you to fax it to them along with your resume, cover letter, licenses, and certifications. How long is the gap between the time you turned in your app to getting a letter that they have received your app & taking the test? Thnk u

@Carlo_flash : hmmm i think it was about 6 months. To be honest, I forgot I had applied and out of the blue I got the letter stating I was scheduled for the "examination" i was able to take it from home, but the test was kinda challenging... especially cuz it was timed.

May 15, I applied

May 31, took written exam

June 18, Got the letter saying i passed and was on the eligibility list

July 11, went to harbor to fill out a "hard copy" application

July 19, Med surg interview at harbor

July 24, ER interview Harbor and Job offer from med surg :) and did my live scan.

Now... just waiting to clear to get my physical. I am so exited... its a long process, but worth it.
