LA county Relief nurse 2013

Published

Hello all :) I applied to a relief nurse 1 position with LA county. I then got a letter in the mail sayng my application had been accepted and i was scheduled for the "examination." I took the test, passed the test, and got another letter in the mail about two months after my test saying I had passed and that my name will be placed in an "eligibility list." What now? Does any one know what happens after this process? Thank you all so much! any info is appreciated. I did get a call from Harbor UCLA and filled out some paper work and got scheduled for an interview. But is this test for all LA county nurse jobs? What has your experience been like? I also heard something about a verbal exam/ interview? what is that?

May 15, I applied

May 31, took written exam

June 18, Got the letter saying i passed and was on the eligibility list

July 11, went to harbor to fill out a "hard copy" application

July 19, Med surg interview at harbor

July 24, ER interview Harbor and Job offer from med surg :) and did my live scan.

Now... just waiting to clear to get my physical. I am so exited... its a long process, but worth it.

Thank you for the info!

@Sophia: so you got a letter 15days after you applied to take the test? I applied in june, but never heard anything from them.

@Sophia, RN: I have an interview for relief nurse position this Tuesday, do you have any advice for me that might've helped you land your job? Thanks in advance :)

Hi Esinb,

I had just got my job offer to Harbor OR as well! I did my livescan last Friday...now just waiting for the call for the physical...The OR is my dream job as well. I know how you are feeling exactly! Congrats! :-)

Congratulations, Sophia! I'm scared to say which hospital I work at because I like to stay anonymous here, but I will say that I work on a medical surgical floor at one of the County hospitals. In general, we deal with very sick patients, many of whom have had little or no access to medical care, so you will see a lot of interesting (and sad) things that you might not see at other facilities. If you have the right attitude, you can learn A LOT! It has been my experience that County offers excellent training and learning opportunities for new nurses. Best of luck to you! :)

@RN/Mom I got a job offer yesterday for Harbor. I am so exited! What hospital do you work in? Again thanks so much for all the useful info :)

Hi Sophia, RN! Congrats on your job! I wanted to ask about the written test. I'm not sure about what you can only reveal, but is it the same as NCLEX with scenarios and such?

Sophia RN, esinb86, newgradRN77 -- have any of you guys gotten your livescan results back yet?

Hi nurse24365...

No not yet...

Hello,

How's the LA County Work Style Assessment test? Is it tough? Is it more like a self evaluation test? Do I need to prepare for it? Tanks in advance.

@newgradrn77- can you please let me know when you hear back? i'm waiting for mine too. thanks. :)

Hi J_ann,

Some parts of it are really difficult, but don't worry about that. Just go over the practice test subjects they gave you in your email and do your best...that's all you can really do. Good Luck!
