KSU accelerated RN program Spring 2012

U.S.A. Georgia

Ok, so I've kind of looked around the site, but I can't find what I'm looking for. I applied to the KSU accelerated nursing program for the Spring of 2012. Our applications, TEAS score, etc. already had to be turned in by May 31st. I was curious to know about how long they take to get back to you to let you know if you made it to the second round. I've got a 3.2 GPA right now, and I graduate from UGA in December with a BS in Psychology. I made a 91.3% overall score on the TEAS V. Does anyone have any idea about my chances of getting in? I took the TEAS without even taking A&P at all, but I'm taking it right now. Any advice if I do make it to the second round? I am CPR/First Aid certified and I have my CNA. Also, if anybody needs any advice about the TEAS, I'd be happy to answer some questions and tell you what I thought of it.

Thanks!

My letter said that we will receive another letter telling us when/how to sign up for interviews! I am so nervous now! I have a 3.83 over all GPA and an 84.5 on the TEAS.. looks like you guys have competitive GPAs as well! I hope we all get in! :)

Congratulations everyone! I got my interview letter for the accelerated program on Tuesday!! So excited.....and nervous. Good luck!! :)

I'm so happy I finally found this thread. Congrats to all who have received a letter. I received one for the accelerated program too! I'm so happy, nervous, anxious, and overwhelmed all at the same time :-/

Does anybody have any idea when our interviews will be? My interview letter for the traditional program said that we would recieve a letter with more information regarding interview signups.. i wonder when that will be?! Everytime I try to sign up I still get a stop sign on owl express

When I looked at the Spring 2011 thread, it appeared that they were allowed to sign up for interviews around Aug. 21st, so I'm hoping that it will be the same for us.

Hey All

I just wanted to join this question and ask---do you think this school is worth the tuition/additional costs as an out of state applicant/student? Anyone in this discussion from out of state? Its like 17000 a year for out of state ( i think please correct me if i am wrong) and the program is what 4 semesters. Please give me your thoughts or message me, I'd really like to know since the website isn't as explanatory as i'd like. Thanks!

I'm not out of state, but from my understanding the accelerated program for the 4 semesters is about 20,000 for in state students. From what I've heard KSU is a really good school, and you get a lot of knowledge. I also heard you don't get as much hands on as some other schools, but regardless I heard it was tough and will definitely be a good one to go to.

My owl express also gives me the stop sign. I guess we will be receiving letters sometime next week with information regarding our interview sign up procedures..

don't forget to do mock interviews, and practice interviewing skills!

anyone excited to start school this week?

thanks UGAgal! If anyone else has thoughts, it would be really helpful

@dancingnurse, I think the tuition is very reasonable for a 4-yr university considering there are some schools that charge $17k or more per semester alone. It sucks to pay out of state tuition, and I understand where you are coming from because I've had to do it. If I were you, I would research other schools so you can see what it is like across the nation. If cost is an issue, I would consider going to a school where you can become a RN-ASN and then bridging to a BSN later. Hopefully you will be making money working as a nurse and establish residency wherever you are and be able to pay in state tuition.

@starlite1980, thank you for that. Its funny but sometimes actually, that you mentioned, cheaper to attend an out of state state school than a private school. I think this program is one the cheaper ones too, right? I just want to make sure the quality of the program, teachers, faculty, etc is worth the investment? I rather get started on my bsn because i think it begets more possibilities for employment. Is the area around the school very nice?

It is a great school that has a great reputation in the Atlanta medical community. Like UGAgal mentioned above, I also heard you don't get as much "hands on" experience like you would at the other schools around. I also looked at the pass rates for the NCLEX and they had a 93.7% in 2009. There are other schools that have done better, but I think the reputation of the school will speak wonders when it comes time to look for a job. As long as you are willing to learn and can adjust to different teaching styles it should be fine. The area around there is nice from what I have seen. I only go to Kennesaw for classes, but I've had to go to the store a couple of times after class. You get the campus feel without feeling like you are in the middle of nowhere. Hope this helps.
