KSU accelerated RN program Spring 2012

Published

Ok, so I've kind of looked around the site, but I can't find what I'm looking for. I applied to the KSU accelerated nursing program for the Spring of 2012. Our applications, TEAS score, etc. already had to be turned in by May 31st. I was curious to know about how long they take to get back to you to let you know if you made it to the second round. I've got a 3.2 GPA right now, and I graduate from UGA in December with a BS in Psychology. I made a 91.3% overall score on the TEAS V. Does anyone have any idea about my chances of getting in? I took the TEAS without even taking A&P at all, but I'm taking it right now. Any advice if I do make it to the second round? I am CPR/First Aid certified and I have my CNA. Also, if anybody needs any advice about the TEAS, I'd be happy to answer some questions and tell you what I thought of it.

Thanks!

@Fanger33,

I heard that research is going to take up a lot of time regardless because it is ongoing. This class....I heard makes that first semester of the accelerated program hell :). I just wanted to know specifically if information is given in the class on campus that would be beneficial. For example, on campus, do they explain research methods, APA style, etc.? Or, are you kind of left to learn by yourself, or already be familiar with doing research if you take it online? My thought process is that I can spend time during the day researching instead of sticking around campus until 8pm to take the class on campus. I don't know what to do...

The research class that I am taking was originally classified as an online class. However, they changed it to a hybrid class at the last minute. But, since the professor had already designed the class to be online, she made class attendance optional. I only went the first couple of times because I've had extensive experience with research and writing research papers. You primarily discuss qualitative versus quantitative research in depth. The class explains the subsets of each type and how to properly critique a research paper. Most of the class will focus on the critiquing portion since, as nurses, you will be expected to review research and be able to critique it to determine its validity, trustworthiness and relevance to current healthcare and practices.

Thanks QT!!!!!!:yeah:

Hey everyone! I just ordered my stethoscope and got an awesome deal. I compared all of the websites that you can buy them at and this is by far the best price. I don't think that I'm allowed to post the site on here, but if you want to send me an email, I would love to share. (I'm just so excited to have done something nursing school related!) The deal that I got is good through the weekend, but I'm sure they'll do something like this again before January.

Thanks vyocky. I know we are supposed to purchase out stephoscopes before we start. I was wondering if there are particular stethoscopes that are better than others or what people recommend getting. Obviously there is a large price range with them and I was wondering if there are paticular ones that people have heard are good to get.

@lizyun I saw your message you sent me and all of it sounds good. I do not have enough posts on here to send private messages yet. If you feel comfortable with it would you send me another private message with another way to contact you (like an email address). I will let you know what I have looked at so far and we can talk about everything more.

@seagreen I have reviewed pretty much all the brand and littmann stethoscopes are the best there is with great sound quality. I bought a littmann classic II SE early this month for a good deal, it's a great steths and comes in different colors. I wanted to buy the littmann master cardiology III but its so expensive so I will wait up on that, maybe my fam will get it for me when I graduate :)

Littmann is definitely the most recommended brand. You basically have three choices, the Classic II SE, the Cardiology III, and the Master Cardiology. (There are a million more options, but I think that these three are best for our needs.) I went with the Classic II SE also. (For $66.49 with free shipping and engraving.) I talked to a doctor friend of mine that told me not to bother with the either of the Cardiology versions because I will be able to hear everything that I need to with the Classic II SE. There is the "Master Classic." I don't know much about this one.

Hello everyone.

You do not actually have to purchase your stethoscope before you start. The lab has a number of stethoscopes that you can try out before you commit to buying one. Going cheaper now may seem like a good idea, and you will be able to hear most of the sounds you need to for the first couple of semesters, but if you get one that's too inexpensive, you won't be able to hear some of the more detailed sounds later in the program and once you graduate. That being said, you don't need an electronic stethoscope or something that's insanely expensive either. I'd recommend talking to other nursing students that you'll meet once you get started (or some you may already know) and find out what they have and whether or not they like it. Don't rush into things. I know you are all excited, but be patient with things. Everything will come faster than you think and you'll miss all of this quiet time you have! :)

Thank you! All of this is helpful information.

Does anyone know when we can register for classes?
