KSU accelerated RN program Spring 2012

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Ok, so I've kind of looked around the site, but I can't find what I'm looking for. I applied to the KSU accelerated nursing program for the Spring of 2012. Our applications, TEAS score, etc. already had to be turned in by May 31st. I was curious to know about how long they take to get back to you to let you know if you made it to the second round. I've got a 3.2 GPA right now, and I graduate from UGA in December with a BS in Psychology. I made a 91.3% overall score on the TEAS V. Does anyone have any idea about my chances of getting in? I took the TEAS without even taking A&P at all, but I'm taking it right now. Any advice if I do make it to the second round? I am CPR/First Aid certified and I have my CNA. Also, if anybody needs any advice about the TEAS, I'd be happy to answer some questions and tell you what I thought of it.

Thanks!

@seagreen I'm traditional

@ proms2009 I am in accelerated so maybe that is why. I'm sure they will open it up as it gets closer to time. Like gtqueen said everyone gets the classes they need.

@seagreen ok atleast am a bit calm now. I know things usually go wrong with students email sometimes that they don't receive email and I was hoping it doesn't happen to me at this critical moment lol Thanks seagreen! :)

@NGgirl,

I'm on standby also. I spoke with F on Friday and she told me that she would not be sending anything out until they figure out how many students need to retake 1st semester classes (in other words....fail). She told me that there are not a lot of students on standby, I know of 2 others in addition to me, and there is you. Therefore, the impression I was given was that if everyone passes first semester, then there will be room for us.:yeah: She made it sound like our chances are more than 50%. If we get in they will contact us via phone or email, using the info you listed on the standby agreement. For some reason, I was under the impression that we were supposed to find out by Nov. 7th. I'm not sure if it stated that in the letter with the contract, which I misplaced. Did you hear anything like this?

@IslandRae

She told me that we could find out anywhere between Nov 7th and the first week of classes. Are you talking about first semester fall classes (like the students who started this fall)? If so, that stinks because then we have to wait until December at the earliest to find out!

Are you on the accelerated or traditional waitlist? I'm on the traditional program list....so I hope there aren't many people who got put on standby. I just want to know more information because I am soooo impatient and they really won't tell you anything. The wait is killing me!

I will let you know if I hear anything.

@NGgirl,

Yes, we are waiting to see how the students from this fall semester do. I would assume that we should hear something at least 1 month before the semester ends. I'm pretty sure that they will be able to gauge who is failing so bad that finals won't help by then. Remember lower than a C is failing in nursing school, so if there is no way for a student to bring their grade up higher than a C by the end of the semester, then they will be repeating that course.

I am on the accelerated standby list, but the two other students I know of are on the traditional standby list. I haven't met anyone else on the accelerated list. I'm impatient also, but I'm no too worried because if we get in, there will be room available in the classes we need, even if that means that we have to open up more sections. If I hear anything, I will post also. Good luck!

For those of you that are on standby, I don't want to discourage you, but it could be after our finals that you find out. I cannot say that with 100% certainty. However, we (current first semester students - both accelerated & traditional) have 50% of our grade that comes from exams/assignments that occur during the last two weeks of class. While I don't know everyone's grades, our entire class passed our competency check-offs, and I don't think anyone currently has a grade that would prevent them from pulling it up with good grades on 50% of what is factored into the final grade. That doesn't mean that there will not be room, but I just wanted to be realistic with you and say that most of our grade is the end of the semester. So, hang in there. Even if you find out in December, you'll get all of your classes for Spring, even if they override you into them, and you'll have plenty of time to turn in the paperwork that is required. So, like I said, hang in there and hopefully we'll see you all next semester. If not, keep pushing forward! You made it this far!

Thanks QTqueen,

That just makes me feel better. I'm not concerned about when we find out, I just want everyone this semester to pass...LOL! That way, no one has to repeat courses, which means there will be room for us few on standby...yaye!!:monkeydance: Although, I am anxious, I've developed a lot of patience while waiting on WSON, especially since I'm on standby. I'm not going to sweat it! Thanks for the info.

For those you that just can't wait: Littmann Stethoscopes are 20% off right now on allheart.com! And engraving is 10.99 for a limited time! Littmann stethoscopes are the most popular by far within the nursing program. So, I wanted to let you all know. :)

Can someone help me with American Heart Association CPR? I don't know which course that is because there isn't one that strictly says Heath Care Provider Course. The closes says BLS-CPR and in the description it says Health Care Provider Course, but half of the ones I found don't have names from people on the list that was in the email.

@UGAgal - BLS CPR is the Healthcare Provider CPR course. The BLS stands for Basic Life Support. You will need to take that one in order to meet your requirements.

@gtqueen

Which pants do most find they prefer- the unisex drawstring or the elastic waist?

I'll be doing the alternate orientation in January rather than the main one, so I figured I might not have a chance to try the stuff on then. Thanks!
