Hi, I just have a query really! my son is four months old. can anyone tell me about what stage does a child begin to talk and to crawl.... would appreciate feedback!!!!!;)

They're all different actually. There are ranges for when babies "should" start crawling or talking. But, since babies don't read the shoulds, they crawl and talk when they're ready.

Some milestones your child will reach early, while others may be late.

My daughter started babbling very early and was saying some words by 6 months but she was early. She now talks like a 3 year old (complete sentences very often) but just turned 2. She started crawling (sort of backwards) at 8 months and walked at 13 months. But, like I said... they're all different.

Wow kids are so different and the ranges are so vast it is hard to say what is "average". I think walking is anywhere from 9-15 months, crawling 4/5 months- never (some kids like my youngest *never* crawl). Talking varies, some kids are just more verbal than others. My oldest was talking really well at 6 months and my 22 month old is really just starting to talk a lot.

I love watching them grow and learn and develop, it truly is a miracle to watch it all.

Like the others said on crawling and walking... None of mine walked before 13 months.

Talking is a whole different story! My youngest simply won't talk. He'll be 2 next week but only says about 10 words. In contrast, my oldest was saying words at 8 months and sentences by 12 months. I've had the youngest's hearing tested and he's fine. The crazy thing is that my "early" talker is also hearing impaired. Go figure....

My friends daughter just started crawling at 10months... But she is already trying to stand and walk now too..

I have had three daughters, and they've all had their mile-stones at their own time.

Child #1 crawled @ 5mths, walked @ 9mths, first word @ 14mths

child #2 crawled @ 7mths, walked @ 12mths, first word,@ 10mth

child #3 crawled @ 6 mth, walked @ 11 mths, first word, 12 mth

http://www.babycenter.com has great info, and mothers of babies born the same time as your son.

Look at it this way (how my ped explained it)...

They might walk later because they are focused on language sooner -- or walk, jump and run early but before they utter their first words. He explained that kids sometimes "focus" on a major milestone before working on another. So, I have a 2-year-old who has outstanding gross and fine motor development -- but hasn't got around to being bothered with language.

I believe that is so true. My kids aren't talking a whole lot yet (age 2 & 3), a lot of people told me that since they've never been to daycare could be part of the reason. But as far as walking they learned that real quick, 3 yo walked at 9 months and 2 yo walked at 8 1/2 months and they both are preemies.

I worked with babies 9-15 monts in a daycare and it really varried. I had some coming to my class already trying to walk. I had some coming to my class talking. I had some doing both. I had some that could do neither. I even had one that was still not crawling at 14 months. (Why should she when she had people carrying her everywhere at the least little whimper and a big brother to hand her whatever he thought she was pointing at or trying to ask for. - just a small theory some of us had about that child since the docs could not find a thing wrong with her - she was able to say a few words btw and was normal size and all that for her age)

Most of the ones in my class started walking around a year and had started crawling around 5-7 months. I had one that never crawled.

I do not have kids yet, but my mom told me my stats. I said my first word (Hello) at 4 months and started walking at 7 months - I never crawled. I was able to say 3 word scentences by 10 months. All of that is very unusual, though. However, I have a friend who was similar to me. My little brother was much slower to do all those things.
