fellow nurses: stay out of ky, unless you are going to work in a big city like louisville/lexington.

i live in a small rural area and the staffing, the nurse:patient ratio is obscene.

you've been warned................

Hi from Louisville! What are your ratios right now? I've heard horror stories from central KY. How bad is it where you are?

your opinion or any others needed.

I'm curious, too. I have heard the horror stories also - where are you (generally), and what are the numbers?

[color=olive] i live in western ky.

[color=#808000] last time i worked in a hospital, i was on a busy, busy med/surg unit and always had ten to eleven patients.

[color=#808000] nursing homes here routinely staff the night shift with one nurse.

i live in a small town in kentucky but i think we are fairly well staffed and manage to retain our staff.the night shift is usually same patient ratio or only 1 nurse down from days. the floor nurses usually have 5-7 pts. and a med nurse. its our pay and benefits that stink! i have almost 20 years experience and do not even make 21 per hour! the reason we do retain our nurses, is there is no where else to work unless you drive 35-50 miles. and our doctors are good to work with.

I'm having this problem now. I don't have money to move but there are no jobs here unless I drive an hour there and back.
