Hi there,

I just wanted to start a thread for anyone who is in the Kentucky Board of Nursing's KARE program. I thought this would be a good place to share/exchange info and lend some support to one another! :angrybird12:

Yes my situation was extremely similar to yours. But you shouldn’t post anything on here. They monitor this site and anything you say here WILL be used against you. 
seems like you have a mighty uphill battle to fight. You were right to deny anything. My license is suspended because of a negative etg and it took a year for them to finally suspend it. I was tricked into signing the cease practice order as well. Thankfully this happened at the height of COVID when the government sent out PUA assistance or else I would’ve lost my home and my family. Do not trust them. They DO NOT have your best interest in mind. My evaluator said I should keep my license and that me losing it “would be the worst possible thing that could happen” to me. They did not KARE.

Can anyone tell me how often you’re getting PETH testing? I’m not asking because I’m trying to cheat the system but simply because I’m poor and I’m trying to think ahead budget wise ? I know it’s quite expensive.

They really only ever order it if you’ve failed an Etg test. It’s just extra fodder to solidify their arguement to suspend your license.

I dunno, the crime syndicate that is the Florida program started doing Peth testing on a regular basis because ‘it was an additional tool to assist us in our recovery’ or some such BS. Rather hilarious (I can say that as I’ve been out of their clutches for over 3 years now) given that I was never into alcohol to begin with and my issue was mental health. I was like, so let me get this straight. These people charged me for an obscenely expensive test for something I never did, to assist me in ‘recovering’ from a disorder I didn’t have in the first place? Ummm okay then, yeah makes so much sense…..

So yeah, extra fodder for yanking your license and extra $$ in their coffers.

Well if that’s the case, I hope it’s only every few months ? I’m already getting urine on a weekly basis. Im so glad I’m only at this year ?

Yea I always wondered how much affinity takes home from these contracts. 
 

honestly, you can’t run an entire government agency just on annual licensure fees.

Right? I lost a controlled med. Tested clean. No found found it (I’m sure) but no one else was tested either. OK fine. But now I’m testing for a year “just in case.” Never any issues before or since but let’s ruin lives over needing to collect money. Can we just increase fees or something? Wouldn’t that be easier ? 

sorry. I’m super bitter this morning ?

Don’t worry, I had a year to get over my bitterness. And that’s while I was waiting on my “trial” to begin. This one when the country shut down so perfect timing to reflect. It was an extremely traumatic time for me, to be honest, I know that I’m just bottling it all up. I wonder when it’ll all manifest itself and what I’ll look like or be doing, when it does. Yeah I went through that too. I thankfully can still practice at full capacity, but when the punishment came down a full year later (and my current job knew about the when thing when they hired me), I got fired and couldn’t find another job for 6 weeks. I’m the only provider for my kids and mom so I didn’t have time to process. I finally did find a very supportive job that I love so feel very lucky. I also feel lucky that I don’t have actual substance abuse problems because this program offers no forgiveness for relapse when in reality addiction is one step forward, 3 steps back. It’s not an environment that nurtures recovery. I hope you are keeping your head up. Keep pushing. It gets better!

Hey guys.   I can’t find the forum that this pertains to, but I am in probation for alcohol abuse and I have a consent agreement with BON in wv.  They said I have to do additional 15 CEU hours on alcohol abuse for my agreement. I can find substance abuse CEU everywhere, but only one course on alcohol abuse for  21.00. Even the bundled unlimited CEu sites don’t have alcohol abuse on them.  Please help ?

Hi, I'm a nurse currently on probation in WV  I am starting a healthcare support group under the group my husband and I started which uses the principals of AA, but includes all addicts  it's very laid back and I just wanted to put it out there   The nursing board accepts this as a counter meeting   My goal is to help nurses and healthcare professionals with hope to reach some when the problem starts getting bad   Every one is welcome 

 

It's at the Recovery cafe 630 8th ave in Huntington Tuesday nights at 7pm
