I have applied to the accelerated program for the Spring 2009 semester. Does anyone know when they let you know about your acceptance...or when you can interview for a spot?
Do you guys know if you can request to be put on the standby list for the various programs and at different campuses? For ex: I am on standby for accel at Jasper, but I was wondering if I could ask to be put on standby for the trad at Kennesaw and so on....I'm not so sure that with gas prices the way they are that driving to Jasper 5 days a week will be practical. Even if I get in, not sure if I will accept it. Confused....!!
Hey guys-
I don't know if you can wait list for traditional if you are on accelerated wait list. I was admitted to the accelerated for Rome this fall so I can offer some insight about the Jasper thing.
First, yes, you do have to go to Jasper if that's where you are accepted. You might be able to take patho or research at Kennesaw if there is room and it doesn't conflict with your courses at Jasper. This semester, our courses all conflicted so we take patho and research online and drive to Rome 3 days a week (not five!).
Don't bother trying to enroll in classes at KSU's campus because Fran will just kick you out and no, there won't be any room in the classes on campus that have labs because the whole program will be full and they don't want you to do that anyway because they want accelerateds together and traditionals together, etc.
Finally, we car pool. Most people share rides. Doing the math, we end up driving to Rome like 11 times a semester and getting a ride the rest of the time.
Guess what? It sucks. Yup. It really well and truly sucks! Its a great program though and you have to weigh the pros of the program vs. the cons of driving to the middle of nowhere three times a week.
It was tough though. I almost went to GSU instead because of the Rome thing.
Oh! One more thing: we will be back at KSU's main campus by summer semester next year so I guess you could say I will drive my car to Rome something like 22 times and that's it. Jasper I think is the same: two semesters at Jasper and two on KSU's campus.
Thanks for the info. I've thought a lot about it since I got my letter for standby and I'm pretty sure I will accept and go to Jasper if I can get in. It will be worth it in the end to say I graduated from KSU.
I spoke with Sandi and she said that you can only be on standby for the list they put you on and that ALL accelerated students are going to Jasper for Spring, none are at KSU. Only the trad students are at KSU for Spring. She told me that my chances of getting in were better b/c of the fact that all 55 acclerated sutdents have to go to Jasper.
She also said that only about 8 students were on standby for the accelerated program....that made me feel better! She also already knew of one student who declined b/c of Jasper so she said my chances of getting a call were really good. The deadline to turn in the contracts is Sept 30. and they would go ahead and start calling people as early as Oct. 1st up to the end of the year. Hopefully, we can hear sooner than later.
I will certainly let everyone know as soon as I hear...if I hear!!!
Is there anyone out there that was recently accepted that would not mind sharing what your 7 Prereq grades were? I am applying for the Fall 2009 program because I will be graduating from KSU in Summer 2009 with a Bachelors in another concentration. I know someone who got in with 5Bs and 2As, but it makes no sense because I applied in the past with 4As and 3Bs. Also, my TEAS is 84, so maybe I need to retake that?
Any advice would be appreciated. I will be applying to the accelerated program.
I am on standby for the accelerated program and I have not heard anything yet. From what I've been told, you could find out anytime b/w now and the first week of class. It's frustrating!!
Congrats on getting into GSU...at least you know you can go somewhere! When do you have to let GSU know whether or not you are accepting it? They certainly got their acceptance letters out fast...wasn't the deadline to apply Oct 1st!! I wish KSU was that fast!
If I were you, I'd go ahead and turn in your acceptance to GSU and sign up for classes..you can always drop the classes and bail out if you get into KSU. People do that all the time, which is why people on standby don't find out until the last minute..b/c of situations like yours. It's common and expected, I wouldn't worry about it.
I had also applied to the Summer semester for KSU..any ideas when I might find out about that...the deadline to apply was Aug 31st?

I have to submit my agreement/confirmation by Sept. 30th. I'm on campus today so I'll be bringing it in to Fran after class. Keep in mind though, that people drop out after they submit their agreements too. As for requesting different campus stand-by lists, I'm not sure how that works, but I recall at my transfer orientation Fran saying that accel. program students don't have a choice as to which campus they are placed at. They can possibly go between campuses during the program depending on classes/clinicals.
