Kennesaw State BSN Fall 2012

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello,

is there anyone out there that has applied for KSU's BSN program for Fall 2012? I know it is really early and the deadline isn't until Jan. 31, 2012, but just wanted to see if anyone will be playing the waiting game with me this early. I actually applied for the Spring 2012, but got wait-listed. I hope I get in, but the reality is that everyone I've heard of that was in my same situation didn't get in. I'll just give KSU one more try.

Hey Sings&Shoots,

Thanks for the response. :) So I am guessing you are in the traditional program? When you had your interview how was it? I am just so nervous that if I do get an interview I will not know what to say. haha

Sorry! Yes I am in the traditional program. The interview was not like a normal job interview. It was more situational. On page 2 of this thread there is a post that gives alot of info about how the interview is. Have an answer ready for every one of the questions that are listed and you should be good.

Sings&Shoots,

Just out of curiosity..what was your TEAS score & GPA? (if you dont mind me asking)

Hey Sings&Shoots,

Thank you so much! You have been very helpful! :)

So far so good. It's tough but anything worth doing is. The support system I have around me with my fellow nursing students is awesome.

@Sings&Shoots: What is your schedule like the first two semesters? What do students usually do during the summer they get off? Do many of the students here go directly into a masters program?

Where do you all do you clinical rotations?

Thanks, yes you have been such a great resource!!

To answer the questions above - my GPA was 3.82 with a TEAS score of 82. The first semester you will be in class 2 days a week and lab one day a week then lab will be replaced by your clinical day. Clinicals are for 6 weeks of the last part of the semester. The second semester is basically the same except you start clinical earlier and you have clinicals for 12 weeks (once a week). Locations may change every semester but for the most part they are at Wellstar Cobb, Wellstar Kennestone, Emory Midtown (formerly Crawford Long), St. Joe's, Northside, and the VA Hospital.

As far as what students do during the summer, I know several people who have applied for externships at various hospitals and some who are just taking the summer off. The mandatory summer off just started with our incoming class so we are the first ones to actually do this (this summer). I am a non-traditional student, so I was a little bummed about that because I just wanted to get done. It's only 2 more months so I'm going to try to enjoy the time I get off this summer.

I don't know the answer about the Masters programs. The nursing advisors would probably have that information. That also might be a good question to ask at your interview.

Good luck to everyone and if you are on Spring Break, enjoy the rest of it. It's time for me to get back to studying for next week!

Sings&Shoots,

Thank you for the info!

Hey everyone, it's been a while. I've been busy working. Obviously I did not get in this past spring, "supposedly" they had no room to take anyone from the stand-by list. For those of you that are confused because of the conflicting information, get used to getting different information everytime you call...that seems to be the norm. I believe for the fall, the letters will go out about the first week of April. I remember they went out that time last year for the fall applicants, and they were interviewing around the end of the semester during final exams in May. When you recieve the letters, there is about a 3-4 week time period before the interview. They have to get people/staff that will be available to conduct the interviews. The interviews are individual, and you are being interviewed by 2 members of the faculty. The questions are behavior/situation questions. EX: Tell me a time you had to deal with an angry customer... I think in the Spring 2012 thread by UGAgal, there is a list with like 25 questions on there, use those as a guide. That list is a great tool! The mock interview is available to current students, and is offered by the career center. (If you go to KSU's main website and search career center, you will get the contact information) During the mock interview, you are asked behavioral questions, and video taped. After the mock interview, they will watch the video with you and go over body language, how you should have answered the questions, etc. She will also give you suggestions on preparing. There is no limit to how many times you can do the mock interview. I only did it once, because I didn't have time to do it again. I would suggest doing it when you receive your letter, then like a week before your scheduled interview. Between that time, practice, practice, practice. I refuse to stress out like I did waiting on the whole Spring semester start. If it happens, it happens....stressing like I did last semester is not worth it. I think everything happens for a reason. I got a job at an assisted living facility in November, and just hot hired at 2 other facilities PRN. For me this is great because if I am able to start in the Fall, I can use my tuition assistance benefit (from all 3 places).I don't qualify for financial aid, so I have to pay out of pocket :-) It has been a blessing in disguise! I wish you all the best!!!

Hey, IslandRae, glad that your job is working well for you. I just got a job as a PCT in a DeKalb hospital, so it looks like we will both be getting great experience prior to nursing school. I was wondering if you could PM me the names of the places you got PRN because I have a friend who works at a nursing home but is looking for other places to work possibly part-time or PRN. It seems like the economy is getting a little better and jobs are finally becoming a little more available. My friend has 3 years experience. Thanks!

@karamarie,

Will do! I just have to figure out how, I've been having problems since the other day. Where does your friend live. The main place I work is looking for people also. It is in Roswell. The other places want 10/11pm -6/7am PRN.

My friend lives in Marietta, right off 75 so it's not a problem to go towards Roswell. You can email me. I don't like the PM function on this forum. It doesn't work well for me either. My email is [email protected]

thanks!

omg! so the other day after I saw the post from Kennesaw State on the other forum about interviews being at the end of this month..I checked Owl Express to see if they had put it in the system under "Program Application". It said "you have not been pre-selected for an interview...etc." I checked again today and it gives me options for times and dates!!!!!! Not sure if this is official because I havent gotten a letter yet but it's definitely a good sign!!

OMGGG!!! I just checked as well and I have times listed that are available for the interviews! ahhhhhh! I really think this is a good sign! I am sooooo excited! :)))
