I just want to tell all of the people who have family and friends that were in and around this disastrous and devistating hurricane that you are in my prayers. I hope and pray that relief comes soon. For all of us who aren't in the area...we need to take a moment and realized just how blessed we are at this time. Life is too short.

having spent 4 weeks at ground zero after 9-11 doing search and rescue and then burying 42 freinds and associates, I can honestly say that I am in shock sitting here right now watching all this on TV. If I could, I would be there in the morning to help out.
If anyone knows anyone down there who needs a temporary place to run away, my wife and I would be happy to host a family in our home until things get better. They just need to get to New York State.
I am usually full of sarcasm and humor on this site...I am in awe of mother nature's fury right now...

That must have been very hard on you to have to see the devestation in NYC. I'm so sorry to hear about your friends. The only difference now is that mother nature is playing the terrorist this time. I can't imagine what that would be like to be in those people's shoes since I know no one in the area, but I certainly do feel quite shocked by this level of destruction. My heart is breaking for those people. This is a tragedy.

We can all see the devastation on TV, but lets also not forget about the workers and volunteers, many of whom also lost family members, friends, and their homes, who have stepped up to the plate to help the victims. The overworked *NURSES* at the hospitals who have no supplies, no water, no power...I can only imagine. I read somewhere that nurses resorted to manually pumping pt. vents because there was no power and saying that people are lining up outside the hospitals to get help when they have little more to offer. They said it's like people running into a burning building for shelter. If we ever needed proof that nurses are angels, this has to be it because what those people are doing down there is the basis of what the nursing philosophy is. God bless them!

My prayers are with everyone affected by this disaster. It really makes me appreciate the things I have in my life, my family, my friends. We were hit here in Halifax Nova Scotia by a hurricane 2 years ago and it really made me understand and relate to the people affected by Katrina. Mind you, our hurricane wasnt even remotely close to this one, but I always felt so safe here and when that happened it changed my whole way of thinking. I also am praying that the level of violence there gets under control soon......my jaw droppped when I saw the news today, these people should be working together to rescue and restore their city, not resorting to violence and complete chaos.......so sad

I just started school at LSUHSC in New Orleans this August. I have lived there for 8 years and got my first bachelor's degree from Tulane. I just got married about 4 weeks ago, and we had to evacuate from our home before the wedding presents finished arriving. I know that we don't have much to complain about - we are alive, we are staying with my in-laws in Arkansas, and my husband even still has a job. I have no clue if I will have a job when (if?) we get back to NO, or if/when school will start again. They are resuming classes for the medical and dental schools in Baton Rouge, but haven't said anything about nursing. Unfortunately, my husband's company is thinking about permanently relocating to Orlando. We are in much better circumstances than many from New Orleans, but it's still completely upended our lives. Thanks to everyone who's helping out down there, or at least everyone that's thinking about us.

It has been very hard and difficult. Despair and depression watching all that is going on around me. I got power back today. Have no food but have water. There is no gas anywhere. If a gas station has gas then it is a $5 limit!!!! People are in lines for up to 10 hours for gas. President Bush came to my town today. A woman was crying b/c she had lost everything and Pres Bush held her ... he allowed her to cry on his shoulder. I was in tears myself. My house is livable but barely. I have not heard from my friends in New Orleans, I can only pray that they are well .... I can only look at the positive b/c losing that many friends is truly heartbreaking. Words do not come easy to me at this time! One day at a time, I guess.
when me nursing school opens up, we are going to accept nursing students from other states... thank the Lord they have a school to go to.
Viral Meningitis is going around. (not bacterial). There are many cases here. Again I am at a loss for words.
Please keep all of us in your prayers! PLEASE.
Thank you so much for this post and all the care and love.
:thankya: :heartbeat

Christain,
My heart is breaking reading your story because I have no frame of reference to know even remotely how you must be feeling. I hope that things look better for you soon. You're right to try to look at the positive side of things, as difficult as they may seem. Keep your head up and know that all of us here are thinking of those affected by the hurricane and pray for conditions to get better soon. I will say a special prayer for you and your friends. Take care of yourself and check back with us to let us know how you're doing. We'll be thinking of you!
