Nursing and weight gain :(
Hey fellow Nurses, I just wanted to share because I am sure some of you are having or have had the same experiences as me. Working busy 12 hour shifts, I never really had time to eat so I would graze all day on junk food that families brought in and then hit the drive through on the way home. Too tired to even think about trying to prepare a healthy meal for the next shift...Ugh before I knew it I had packed on the pounds, a lot of them feeling miserable I was desperate to get my health back.... I started this incredible program, I eat healthier than I probably have in my life. I love the convenience at work as well. I do 2 shakes a day, which is great because we have a little blender at work, quick and easy and packed with protein and pure nutrition. Then one meal between 400 -600 calories and two 100 calorie snacks. I am so happy to report that I have lost 35lbs and feel amazing. My point is as Nurses we are so busy caring for others that we put ourselves on the backburner. We sacrifice our health for others, it's not fair to us or our families! Just remember to take care of yourself, because you are the only you, you got :)

Algebra anyone??
I had the same problem I started and dropped Algebra twice, It was the only class left before I could apply. The third time, I stuck it out showed up to every class, did the homework and still did lousy on the tests. I told the teacher that I had huge math anxiety and I just needed to pass so I could go on to nursing. He told me I should go see the school counselor, now I thought he was crazy. It was apparent Algebra was his life! Anyway, somehow I got a "C", I was truley shocked, my point is go to class, don't drop, talk to the teacher and yes, get a tutor.. Good luck to you! It will Happen, trust me, I will graduate from the Nursing Program May 11th and am counting down the day's.

I got in at Phoenix College...anyone else?
Hi Deanna, In block one they took a list of where we live and what our first choice for clinical would be. They were good about putting us closest to home. There are ten people in each clinical. I go wed and thur 6:30 - 2:00, we have to go in on Tuesday before and pick a pt. then we come home and research their diagnosis, and the meds that they are on so we can pass them the next day, It is alot of work! But you learn so much! Let me know if you have any more ??'s, I know it is so exciting, I still cant believe that I am in it! Jennette

I got in at Phoenix College...anyone else?
Congratulations! I am in block one at PC, I love it the instructors, are really nice, sometimes a little unorganized, but overall awesome. I have learned so much in the last 2 months, it's crazy. Block one is pretty easy, I think.. I am now doing clinicals at PV, wow it sure is eye opening, but I do love it. Go into PC website, go to dept and programs, scroll down on right to nursing, go into yellow box on right to course outline, go to block one and there you go, thats what you will be doing, all the powerpoints are right there! anyway let me know if you have any questions. Help! Need answers quickly about class sign up
This is so exciting, I cant wait to log on here tomorrow and hear that you all got in. I am at Phoenix college, block 1. I remember checking the computer constantly and then when I wasnt looking I got an email from PC wanting to know if I would like to accept their offer to their nursing program. OMG, dancing around and jumping for joy, finally, and now I am here and it still seems a little sureal, in two weeks I start clinicals at PV hospital, imagine me able to change dressings, pass meds, give injections and start IV's, OMG! The way ours worked was once you are in they do the registering, but they dont have multiply hours available. So I am not sure how yours will work. As far as clinicals, our instructors where great in getting us in to the hospitals that were closest to us.They did say next semester would be different you go where you are assigned and that is that. Good Luck to all of you, let us know as soon you can! Jennette:wink2:

How in the world do you make it in CA?
Just a note I live in AZ and two years ago went to UCLA for a new and somewhat experimental surgery, which was a success. But I will tell you it was the worst hospital experience I have ever had. The nurses, when I could get one's attention, where incredibly rude and insensitive and acted like I was a major inconvenience to them. The surgeon was amazing but the hospital and staff were a horrifying experience. If I never go there again I will be happy.

Katrina
As I sit here in the safety and comfort of my home in AZ. I can't even imagine what these people are going through. I certainly do not condone the violence, most of it senseless. Most of it motivated by fear and frustrations. To think that these people literally have no home, no car, no food, no ways of communication, no cell phones, no tv, no radio, no warmth, alone in a vast city, in complete darkness. We can watch it on TV and no what is going on and that help is on the way. They have no idea what is going on. They have literally been cut of from the "outside world" They are in fight or flight mode, and we know that when it comes to survival, people do crazy things. These people are alone and desperate to save themselves and their families. God only knows, what we would do put in that situation. Yes it would be best to work together, in a perfect world. But when your baby is hungry, what do you do. I don't know, it is such a sad situation. How will they recover from this, God only know's. my thoughts and prayers are with them:crying2:

What about a time for live chat?
I was thinking that every time that I go to live chat no one is in there. What if we set up a time to meet in there, It would be nice to have someone to chat with that is going through the same thing. I start program tommorrow, and would love the support, Let me know what you think. Jennette
