Kaplan scores/Reschedule the NCLEX?

I know this has probably been posted a million times on this forum, so here it goes again..

I'm scheduled to take the NCLEX-RN in a week and a half. I took Kaplan, which finished 2 weeks ago. Below are my scores:

Diagnostic=63%, Qt1=53%, QT2=70%, Qt3=55%, QT4=63%, Qt5=63%, Qt6=68%, Qt7=61%, Readiness=73%, Qbank average= 58% w/new questions only but it's currently is a 66% because I have no retaking some of the questions I got wrong before.

I really don't feel like I've learned anything from Kaplan, but I know so many people swear by it! I feel like I'm not prepared to take this test at all! I don't know anything! But then I ask myself will I ever be prepared? Do people go into the NCLEX and say to themself "I know everything I need to know to pass this test?" Or should I just go go into the test and hope for the best? People keep telling me that as long as I do all the questions Kaplan has and read/understand the rationales that I'll be fine. I sorta believe them because of Kaplan's high pass rate, but I can't help but wonder "what if?" What are your thoughts? I know that if I don't feel prepared that I should wait, I just really want to get this thing over with. I hate waking up every morning and sitting on the computer all day doing those stupid questions!!

Please let me know what you think!! Thank you :loveya:

I know exactly how you feel. I am a bad test taker, I did not do well on the Hesi. I was doing 100 questions a day from Saunders 4th cd, I was doing OK with those but still did bad on my hesi so I figured I needed help. I read that many say that Kaplan questions are most like the test so I bought the Online complete. I am scheduled for the test in 3 weeks. But I just started Kaplan did diagnostic test and started the course book.

Not sure how long it will take me so I am trying to decide if I should postpone my test

How long did the course take you and did you do the entire book

thanks

I did really bad on the Hessi too. That's one of the main reasons I'm worried. From what I've read on these boards, it's not really necessary to get above a 65% on all the Kaplan test in order to pass the NCLEX on the first try. But I think I'm going to make sure I retake all the QT until they're above a 65 just for my own peace of mind.

I did the Kaplan complete but mine was in the classroom. I did every single question in qbank, some multiple times, have studied a little from NCLEX3500 and Saunders and watched all of the Kaplan content videos (which took FOREVER!) To be honest I didn't focus on the Kaplan content book that much, and now I'm starting to regret it. My instructor sweared to us that as long as we do all the questions from Kaplan that we'll be fine. However as the test is getting closer, my anxiety is starting to rise so as of yesterday I started to look through my Saunders book to review content. I realize I won't be able to go over that much content because of how soon my test is, but it has to be better than nothing.

It sounds like as long as your committed to studying everyday, then I wouldn't postpone your test. But then again, I haven't even taken my test yet so I really have no idea what to expect! But I have heard time and time again that Kaplan and NCLEX are so similar!

Good luck to you. :redpinkhe

OMG... I am having the same exact problem...BUT guess what my readiness test score went down to 65 from 69 on the diagnostic...HA...I feel like we will always feel like we are missing knowledge like we dont know enough, but I think that is normal...Everyone does keep saying that kaplan is like nclex, but well see...I am also redoing my incorrect Qbank questions and have improved to 66 like you, so obviously we have improved...:) let me know how you are doing...

It is normal to feel nervous, but I have come to the conclusion that it feels worse not to be prepared. So, if you are prepared, then understand it is normal to feel nervous up until you walk out after completing the exam.

I am feeling nervous just by knowing that my exam is like 10 days away!

So we will always feel this way. Looks like you ahve done it all, and your scores like efficient.

Good luck to you. :specs:

Thanks for responding guys! I would say one of the most frustrating thing for me about the test is 1-having NO idea what they're going to ask and 2-the fact that it's so easy to push the test back because you can pick the date.

My test is scheduled for July 1st. I scheduled it for that date so I'll be able to go to the beach for the 4th of July and celebrate:beer: (or maybe drink my sorrows away!:bluecry1:) I'm going to keep redoing Kaplan until then. Are you only studying from Kaplan? I just started using NCLEX3500 about a week ago and from time to time look at Saunders (although I have the 3rd edition.) I'm to the point where I can pretty much recongize most of the questions/correct answers from Kaplan so I want to take a break from that until Monday. Please keep me posted! WE CAN DO IT!!!! :nurse:

hi

I did do 3 weeks of Saunders 4th cd about 100 a day. Now I am doing kaplan. I was suppose to go to the beach over the 4th but cancelled. I take the test the 9th and would be too worked up to enjoy myself. My daughter asked me to come so I will go for a day then come back and study.

DId you do the entire book and all the tests? I am just on the 3rd chapter, I am watching while reading the book and doing the review questions. I am not doing all that great with the review questions. I have not even started with the ttests. Maybe I should push my test back a week.

What do you think

Have you been doing a comprehensive review of content? My q-bank scores were horrible until i started reviewing content. I watched all the videos online but if you have the Kaplan course book, it's the same information. So at this point, you may just look and see what area is your weakness i.e. reduction of risk potential and review all the content in that area. Hope this helps.

emilysmom- You mean you're on the 3rd chapter of Saunders? I only use Saunders in areas that I'm weak in and then I'll do some of the questions at the end of the chapter. I know you said your Kaplan scores are similar to mine- well then I have some good news!! One of my friends who I took Kaplan with just took her NCLEX a few days ago and passed w/75 questions. Her qbank score was a couple points higher than mine, but I alawys did better than her on the question trainers, dx and readiness test. So without a doubt there is hope! If I were you I would take the test on the 9th. Just keep doing those questions! And after I take my test I'll let you know how it is.

Carmey- I have watched every single content video from Kaplan, and then after that I would just review the notes I took and everything in the blue course book once or twice. Those videos took so long that by the time I was done watching them I didn't feel like studying!

Thanks for responding and I'll keep you posted! :loveya:

I feel the same way as many of you, I am so darn nervous---I just want to get it over with but at the same time, the confidence isn't there, every time I get one thing, I forget something else. I am almost done reading the book once and will probably read it again, I haven't watched the videos---I really can't sit still for so long. However, I am praying alot and trying to get in at least 100+ questions/day. I test in 3 weeks. I am using Saunders for the content review.

My primary goal is to feel comfortable with what I know, it has become very obvious that I won't know it all but I just want to be comfortable. My only recommendation is to keep trudging along, don't give up, you're almost there! Good luck to everyone and I'll let you know how things go.;););)

This site has been so helpful in calming me down.

Hello I see you took your exam today. Well I take mine in 4 days and my scores are very similar to yours maybe off by a number. I did all my Qbank questins and Iam hoping it gets me through the nclex to pass. I wanted to ask you did the decision tree help you for the exam and did the exam seem easier to you? Iam very nervous. Congradulations in advance.

sounds like you guys are studying hard! I have a couple questions, i have the kaplan review/stragity (SP) book but it did not come up a cd or any questions banks? Do i need to get a better book? what kaplan book do u recommend or cd? thanks, i am done with LPN at end of july and planning to take test in aug. thanks
