Kaplan Review course

Nursing Students NCLEX

For everyone that is wondering if Kaplan review course is worth the money, let me reassure you that it is NOT. I just got through taking the Kaplan course and it is not worth the 450 dollars that they charge. I did all the Q banks and question trainers and received about 55 to 60 % on all of them. I thought that it would have helped me when I went to take the NCLEX but it did not. The questions were not even close to the way Kaplan taught. They even contradicted themselves on the rational on several questions, particularly the infectious control pertaining to the droplet, airbourne, and contact. Yes, there was some good pointers that they give but nothing that you cannot find over the internet or in any other review book. They only study guide that I actually saw very similar questions to the NCLEX was the NCLEX 3500 website. NCLEX 3500 is a free website to. I have to give them credit for helping me pass the NCLEX the first time with only 88 questions. So please keep you money and buy 20 books worth of questions and answers. Even this website "allnurses" helped a great deal.

I used Kaplan and thought it was well worth the money. My Kaplan instructor actually told us that the average Kaplan user only makes use of 30% of the materials made available to them through the Kaplan program. The program is more than just going to class and answering questions in the Qbank. I found the online lectures to be extremely helpful. I watched them all, took notes, and skipped reading the book. I also felt that my exam mirrored the questions from the Qbank and Qtrainers, maybe a level higher in difficulty. I also think the Kaplan instructor can either make or break the program. I was lucky and had one of the greatest, most knowledgeable instructors, who also taught at one of the local universities. I also experienced one awful session with an alternate instructor who we all could not believe was a critical care nurse with 20 years of experience.

I do have to agree with others. Kaplan works for some and doesn't work for others. As long as you find something that helps you prepare for the exam so that you feel confident, that is what is most important.

Thanks Eric!

I've reviewed Kaplan's tips, which I found very helpful. Helps you eliminate the wrong answer and dissect the question.

I think I'm going to purchase the Saunders book and review that. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks again!

I have to retake the NCLEX again. I failed the first time would you remind the Kaplan review or even the Qbank.

:twocents: I have to disagree. I think that the Kaplan program is great for those of us who need to sit in a classroom and to have someone go over the information with us. I graduated nursing school in December 2007 and studied on my own for months using Saunders with no progress before my wife, who is a RN, suggested that I take the Kaplan Review Course. It was a great investment. I passed the NCLEX with 75 questions on my first attempt. The NCLEX 3500 is a great software application and I used it after I completed Kaplan's Qbank BUT I am not convinced that I would have passed the NCLEX using NCLEX 3500 exclusively. Bottom line, find a review program that fits your learning style......and do your own research.
