Hello everyone!
I just took the Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exam! I just wanted to post a review since there is really nothing out there about it.
The reading is simply, reading. The page splits into two sections, so on the left side you have the actual reading and the right side are the questions.
The math can vary.. I only had fractions/decimals/word/proportions. It was extremely easy- unless math is hard for you. I would recommend brushing up on fractions & percentages.
The science..... study everything about each system! I really had a question about EVERY topic listed in the book that it says the test is on (e.g.: electrolytes, renal/digestive (etc) systems.. neurology..) all of them!
The writing is a pain, I am actually a good essay writer (or so I think). There are questions about which sentence should be omitted, which sentence has a grammar error, punctuation errors.. There are also questions about where another paragraph should be inserted.
The science was the most difficult part for me, there is so much to study for only 20 quick questions. There are a million things to know about the digestive system, but one question..
Examples of questions I had:
Which system controls metabolism?
How does blood flow through the heart? (through which ventricle first/last)
If a nurse is examining someone with gout, what should the person's foot look like?
I had questions about how air travels through the lungs, as well & homeostasis questions.
You do have a basic calculator you can use (which can do everything you need it to do).
You get your results after the exam is finished & I was able to print mine off. I started at 12:30 PM and finished at 2:30 PM. I did not take any breaks as it was easier to just keep going, neither did anyone in my group. But, I've heard some people recommend breaks (especially if you have test anxiety)
Good luck!!
The questions for Kaplan entrance are VERY specific for the Science portion. It has questions regarding what happens to the lungs when you breath, what a negative feedback cycle is, parasympathetic mode, ...... umm... There was a question about the renal system, digestive system, gout, asthma, blood flow of the heart and a few others that I can't remember. Good news is that it really is all about physiology and nothing else. I took A&P 1 and 2 and aced both classes and ended up only getting 65% on this portion the first time. You kinda either know it or you don't. I feel like having a broad understanding of each system is the only way you'll pass it. Should definitely take AnP before attempting. The math is very simple. Adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions, percentages, conversions and ratios. The reading and writing were simple but long and tedious. As long as you have a basic understanding of grammar, spelling, punctuation, verbs, nouns, etc... you should be fine. Good luck everyone!!! xox

This was such a huge help thank you thank you thank you!!!
I just took the Kaplan Entrance Exam! Although, I passed, my score isn't competitive so hopefully I can provide a few tips.
Reading-(22 questions, 45 min.): Use an ACT study guide for this section, but avoid the super long passages because the Kaplan will use short passages, each with 5 questions. Having "reading" first is tough because you're really nervous, so be sure to read slow but not too slow because your 45 mins. will go by quick.
Ex: "What sentence doesn't belong in this passage?" or "In paragraph 3, what is the Author trying to illustrate?"
Math- (28 questions, 45 min.): This section is easy. Some of the questions are a joke, considering you're given a calculator for any question. Know how to add, subtract, divide, and multiply fractions. Know how to convert decimals into percentages and vice versa. You have to convert some problems but don't worry because they'll provide everything. This section has the most questions, so do really well, then you won't need to perform as well in other sections.
Ex: "Anna needs to administer 1/2 oz and 3/4 oz of medication, however, she only has 1 oz of the medication. Does Anna have enough medication?"
Writing- (21 questions, 45 minute): This section was tough. Don't over analyze the questions, because multiple answers seem right but go with your gut. You'll read a passage and answer about 5 questions regarding the writing. I would watch Youtube videos and/or review the content on this link: Rules at Grammar Bytes!
Ex: "Which sentence uses an incorrect form of punctuation? Sentence 1,2,3,4,5?"
Science- (20 questions, 30 minutes): I reviewed all my A&P Powerpoints and I barely passed. Watch these videos:
Human anatomy and physiology | Health and medicine |
Khan Academy
Review: hypertension, asthma, WBCs, respiratory system (all), cardiovascular system, how blood flows through the heart, negative feedback, different lobes of the brain and their functions.

This was very veryp helpful. I have taken the tests twice and next month I will be able to retest. I had as I can recall the same questions. So, the reading is Essay ? Those passages are so long.
