Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exam!

Nursing Students School Programs

Hello everyone!

I just took the Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exam! I just wanted to post a review since there is really nothing out there about it.

The reading is simply, reading. The page splits into two sections, so on the left side you have the actual reading and the right side are the questions.

The math can vary.. I only had fractions/decimals/word/proportions. It was extremely easy- unless math is hard for you. I would recommend brushing up on fractions & percentages.

The science..... study everything about each system! I really had a question about EVERY topic listed in the book that it says the test is on (e.g.: electrolytes, renal/digestive (etc) systems.. neurology..) all of them!

The writing is a pain, I am actually a good essay writer (or so I think). There are questions about which sentence should be omitted, which sentence has a grammar error, punctuation errors.. There are also questions about where another paragraph should be inserted.

The science was the most difficult part for me, there is so much to study for only 20 quick questions. There are a million things to know about the digestive system, but one question..

Examples of questions I had:

Which system controls metabolism?

How does blood flow through the heart? (through which ventricle first/last)

If a nurse is examining someone with gout, what should the person's foot look like?

I had questions about how air travels through the lungs, as well & homeostasis questions.

You do have a basic calculator you can use (which can do everything you need it to do).

You get your results after the exam is finished & I was able to print mine off. I started at 12:30 PM and finished at 2:30 PM. I did not take any breaks as it was easier to just keep going, neither did anyone in my group. But, I've heard some people recommend breaks (especially if you have test anxiety)

Good luck!!

I'm in Texas and I took the Kaplan and the school has a specific on what is covered, writing -assessing passage development, assessing paragraph logic, assessing mechanics of writing, math-conversions,operations,ratios,word problems, reading-determine the logic of a passage, comprehend details, drawing basic inferences, identifying the purpose of a passage, science-physiology of : cardiovascular, gastro, neuro, resp, sensory, hematology, immune, renal systems, also homeostasis, electrolytes, overall avg required to pass is 65%

Took the test yesterday for Carrington College, Reno. Scored 91% overall. With that said I failed the writing section twice last year. But scored 76% on that section this time which in my opinion is pretty darn good. I got a 100% in reading and a 96% in math. These two sections are basic stuff. The writing however, is extremely difficult in my honest option. Have questions? Direct them this way. Nevermind, don't ask questions. Just buy the GED language arts book from kaplan. Read every page of the book and you should be good. Hopefully I get in. We'll see!!!

Hey glad to see you passed I have took the Kaplan twice and missed by 1 point both times from the accepted scorce do u have any pointers or books I can buy the math was my strong point so I just need help with the English and reading parts. I felt like

giving up were i failed twice Thanks

Hi all!! I am going to be taking the Kaplan next week for FNU. I have searched for schools everywhere

and given the cost and the lenth of time this was the best I could find considering I have my AA and some BSN credits that they are accepting. I can do the BSN program full-time in three semesters or part-time in 5 semesters. Can any of you give me some info information on this school. So far the admissions person that helped me was very informative but then i read some bad reviews and have my doubts. could you please share your experiences wether good or bad. thank you!!

Hey! I know you said no questions hahah but I just took the Kaplan for Carrington. I decided to test twice. I took it the first time with just some light brushing up on the materials. I wanted to see what it was like before I started studying all the wrong things. I ended up scoring a 95% in reading, a 71% in math, and a 67% in writing. I am testing again in two weeks. I think I know what I need to do for the math section, but the writing really killed me. I have always been a great writer and have never had issues in college. However, that portion of the test really killed me! Any particular parts of the GED language arts book that you would say to focus on? I am ordering it now and will read every page as suggested! Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! PS Is it the Kaplan GED Test Reasoning Through Language Arts Prep 2015??

The school I am trying to get into right now is exactly the same! Do you mind me asking what you scored? Do you recall any of the questions? I am so nervous about this test. There is so much criteria, I don't know what I need to study. How long did you study? Did you need to know any lab values? Any tips or hints are greatly appreciated!! Thank you :)

jess216 where did you take the test? The school I'm applying offers the test every 6 months, so if I don't pass it I have to wait 6 months to retake it.

Has anyone taken the Kaplan nursing entrance exam recently? I plan on taking it this month and I am worried about reading and writing. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to prepare them? Any books that I can use for practice? Thank you!!!
