Hi dananak! sure you can add me up.. I'm sure we can relate since we're both foreign nurses..
Hey there!! I just passed the NCLEX with 86 questions. Check out my thread about how I studied, but I did both NCSBN and Kaplan (Qbank only). NCSBN did not help me at all and I found the wording to their questions confusing and not like the NCLEX at all. Although it is good for content. My advice would be to do questions like crazy though, do as much as you can!! Kaplan was great for that and everything about it was similar to the NCLEX. Kaplan questions are higher level questions too. I only did the Qbank so there were just questions and no content you can purchase content along with the Qbank if you want too. Review rationale for all the questions even the ones you got right because you need to think in NCLEX mode not nursing school mode. Just do a ton of questions and review rationale... you'll do great!
Wow!! am happy for you.. Congratulations! You inspire me.. Yes I'd like to purchase Kaplan's Qbank too so I can practice on the questions. Thank you thocat1989! :)
I used both programs and I was successful the first time on the NCLEX only taking 75 Questions. I would suggest using Hurst Review first. This will help you solidify your nursing knowledge and help you focus on the important things for the NCLEX. Next, I would do Kaplan. Their Q Bank has over 1000 questions that have varying levels of difficulty. Kaplan also has strategies to help you answer questions that you have absolutely no idea on. Kaplan also prepares you for test taking. Take all the questions in Timed mode to get used answering questions for long periods of time. Also one thing that I can no emphasize more is REMEDIATE!!! Even the questions you answered correctly! take the time to understand why each answer is right or wrong, this will greatly enhance your critical thinking. For all the questions that I was unsure of I kept a note book and filled it with rationales and things I needed to look over. If you notice that you are continually getting answers wrong, do some research on the subject- figure out the patho, interventions and pharm and most importantly figure out why! Good luck to you and I hope this helps!
Thank you nursenurseRN92! That helped a lot. Yes I am reading every rationales even with the questions I got right. And I try to get back on topics I am weak on. I appreciate your advice. Thanks!
I am thinking to purchase Hurst! I have done Saunders (half of the book), Kaplan (twice), NCBSN ( 8 weeks) I failed board 3 times... I am doing Hurst combining with my friend (ready to pass notes) and Saunders notes.. then doing each body system questions from uworld. I am going to study for good 4-6 weeks then I take my board...staying positive. True Hurst doesn't cover lots of info so I go back to Saunders but its a lot to read but I wrote all the important points from the book...
I attended the Hurst Review in August. I paid $350. I attended with 3 of my classmates. I passed NCLEX the first time in 75 questions. I was the only one of us that passed the first time. Hurst had a lot of good content. I see that it had potential to solidify things that people may not fully understand. It was my opinion that the test taking strategies were more harmful than helpful. I didn't agree with them at all. I passed because I was prepared and didn't need that Hurst review but I tend to over prepare. I had a 4.0GPA and I did thousand of NCLEX questions through Lippencott and Saunders. My classmates failed because they put all their ducks into a Hurst basket and took their advice and only studied Hurst prior to testing. Do yourself a favor and spend $40.00 on a Saunders book and $40.00 on a Lippencott book. Study them cover to cover. Truly understand the rationale behind the answers. This will help you more than Hurst.
