Hello everyone, I am 19 years of age and I live in the state of Florida. I I'm on the urge of beginning college this August and become an RN. I had a very difficult childhood and sadly made very poor decisions at age 14. I was charged with two juvenile felonies and not very pretty ones I must say. I am beggining the process of expungement and by the time It is time to take my test it would be 8-9 years from my juvenile charges. I was hoping someone with a similar situation or with my experience can give me an honest strong perspective on the subject. What are my chances to beat this mistake I made as a kid? I am no longer that person I was when I was 14 years old. I have a dream to be someone. To be a nurse and help others. I am a humble girl trying to move forward in this life. I am willing to do what it takes to get there. I know who I am and I know I am not that lost little girl , I'm just afraid of how it's going to look. My past childhood mistakes shouldn't define who I Am as a person today. Any opinions??? Thank you. I've read a lot into Florida BON and it's a case by case bias basically.... I just want to know my chances and anything that can help!

Hi there. First, welcome. Second, I encourage you to not use your real name. I would check with the state's board of nursing and ask those questions, or an attorney. I wish you the best. Hang in there and persevere. I hope all works out for you.

Hi Jessenia, and welcome to AN!!
I have asked the moderators to move your post to our Nursing with a Criminal History forum for more targeted responses. This is more of a general nursing forum and I'm afraid it will get lost here. Hopefully you'll get replies from our members who have gone through similar events in their lives and turned things around.
It sounds to me like you've got some good potential to be a great nurse one day. I wish I could offer some advice, but I'm one of those old battle-axes who went through school in mid-life and retired early. Best of luck to you, and thanks for joining Allnurses.com.:)
Thank you for the positivity!

Were you convicted as a juvenile? If so, those records are probably sealed and you aren't required to report your convictions. Good luck.
