Juvenile criminal record and license??

Nurses Criminal

Published

I talked to the investigator today and I guess multiple things showed on my fingerprints :( One is when i was an adult but I was found not guilty for all charges..

I do have a criminal record as a juvenile, will that make it so I cannot get my license?

That depends or your state and the crime.

I second that. I have a non violent felony in the state of florida as a kid. Just got word....I am now an RN in the state of Florida with no restrictions. WOOT!:clpty:

Specializes in telemetry.

I had a spotty juvenile record- worse than the previous poster's. I ran a state and FBI fingerprint check on myelf and nothing came up. I told the BON in Florida in my application. I had to get reference letters and write my story for them. They gave me an unrestricted license.

They say their decision is case by case. If you really want this then do it, but you will have an uphill battle.

i have a friend who is gonig to be applying to nursing school for january and he has a juvenile record, and did not disclose it, he said it is sealed by the court when you are 18. And the application specifically says "you do not have to disclose any charges that have been sealed or expunged by the court", but i'd still be a little worried....does anyone know of anyone that did not disclose this? and if so, did they still get their license??

I also am wondering if anyone has not disclosed their juvenile record and if they got their license or not. I too have a juvenile record and am debating on whether I should disclose it or not. My lawyer said I dont have to but the board of nursing said I do. I dont know who to believe...Can the BON just be saying that to get me to disclose my information?? I graduate this May and am so stressed over this. Any first hand accounts would be great, thanks!

What you need to disclose is state based. Also, lawyers know ONLY their piece of the law. Even Judges have told folks that they NEVER have to disclose a conviction that was non-adjudicated.....which is NOT true for BON applications.

What I do know is that you answer the question you are asked...have you EVER been convicted, plead no contest, plead guilty even if adjudication was withheld..... It doesn't say, "since you turned 18". It says EVER.

in pa, there is a new way to check backgrounds, and speaking only for Pa., juvenile stuff does show up. so if ur i. Pa, run ur on background on the state police website, the one the schools and hospitals will use for employment. Best bet is to get them expunged by paying for a lawyer. BC it is NOT sealed like they tell u it is.....trust me

Hi XEnfoldYouX,

Sorry but i live in florida as well and I have a felony as a kind of the same issue as you did. I am in my last year of nursing school and I am really scared. this is my email [email protected] Please can you email me I want to ask you some question regarding what I should do. Please I really don't know where to turn an since you went through the same problem I am asking for your help. THANK YOU.

I'm interested if you have found out anything new on whether or not juvenile history needs to be disclosed. I'm 28 with a non-violent felony that happened a little over 16 years ago. Adjudication was withheld and has been the ONLY time that I've been in trouble with the law. I'm also Florida resident and going to be applying very soon. Any updates on the matter would be much appreciated.

Did you need to answer yes to the question of whether or not you've been convicted. I too have a non violent crime in the state of florida when I was 12 and was able to get my CNA no problem. Going to be applying to take the test soon so it would be much help to know if you needed to disclose your information as a minor. Thanks
