If you have all of your prereq's done for your RN, then you can start applying for a program right away. The online programs dont require hours of experience, just that you have a LPN license. But if you are going to apply to another local college they may require so many hours of experience first plus the prereq's. The local college that I am considering is requiring 1000 hours. I have two classes left to finish for my RN prereq's so I am going to work on those two classes while I am getting my hours of experience. Once you start the LPN to RN program its about 1yr full-time or 18 months part-time. I hope this helps.
thats not to bad....i think anyways.. I mean it takes so long to get your RN i feel like thats a deal!

I also did some pre-reqs for the RN program while in the LPN program to get a head start but did have to wait until the following fall to start with the 2nd year RN students. It seemed really fast in hindsight because the RN portion was only a short summer session and then the last 2 semesters of the RN program. I'm so happy that I did it. Good luck to you.

I went to a LPN program that was horribly expensive and the credits didn't transfer...so I had to start out all over again!
I'm bridging at the local community college, still getting prereq's out of the way. I'm also doing the pre-req's for the state school system so that I can transistion straight to my BSN bridge when I get my ADN. Basically, I took three semesters full time, and now have three semesters to go part time to get my science pre-req's out of the way (I refuse to take more than one science course with a lab while working full time and having a family). After that, I'll have three semesters of nursing courses to take. I'm looking at May 2011 as grad date.

I took my pre-req courses for RN before the LPN program. Those, depending on the school req, could take a semester, or just high school courses science/math,etc., or could take a year or so.
I applied to the RN at the same time as the LPN. I will hope to finish my LPN in Dec., and start RN in Jan., so 3 years in total for nursing courses, plus about a year of part-time pre-reqs.
There's a wait list now for the LPN-RN bridge program at my school, so I'm really glad I didn't wait to apply to that for after I'm a LPN. It would be at least a year wait at my school to start.
I say prepare for as many as you can, apply to all, then work from there with time options! NS is so competitive in my area-a seat is golden! You never know until you apply, though. I'm thankful to have started with my LPN, though, as at least we can work if we have to wait, and get experience, etc.
