Just whining!

My feet hurt. My poor feet. I sat down twice in 13 hours, and it was to pee. :sniff:

I just have to complain to someone about my poor aching feet. I've walked yet another pair of Danskos flat. I've been working crazy hours so my hubby had been doing more then his fair share of work at home and with the kids. He's too stressed to care, lol. My kids do not want to hear abour my poor feet. My dogs just look at me and go to the food bowl. My coworkers also have aching feet, but we've not had time to whine to each other.

I'm tired, I'm getting a cold, I'm achey, and I just want to whine to someone. After a night of what seemed to be 50 "I think I have the swine flu maybe I'll get really sick", ~10 various 'uh-oh really sick', a few strep, a few out of drugs, one SVT, many work/school notes, an AMS noncompliant pt w/ hours of one on one care, and one annoying individual who called EMS for a broken tooth and proceeded to display said near-trench mouth for the entertainment of everyone in the lobby...... all I can think about is that my feet hurt, lol.

Sigh. I guess I'll see who has Danskos on sale tonight.

Silly, yet related, question: How long did your Danskos last? Mine are about a year old and I had to take them in for (heel strap) elastic and buckle repair. The shoes themselves are still in great condition.

get some epsom salt and soak them in warm water... i know my feet ache all night sometimes after a 12 hour shift .. then i go to work sore and achy another day... i hear your pain.. when your feet hurt your whole world hurts....

when your feet hurt your whole world hurts....

Very true. I sometimes lie 'upside down' on my bed, with my hips where the pillow usually goes and my legs up against the wall. My husband thinks I'm crazy, but it really does help with the swelling.

Yeah, well, at least you get to pee sitting down.

Just kidding. Feel better, soon.

I feel your pain. My last shift was the same, I didn't do an ounce of charting till 7:30, after report. (which took till 9:00) I peed twice, and never found time to eat the lunch my husband was nice enough to bring to the breakroom for me...I tossed it in the trash as I walked out the door. My old feet almost refused to walk to bed after I got out of the shower.

I could have kissed my OB when the next day at my 36 week appt she put me on bedrest :p

oh sweetie....i hope things get better for you. you definetely deserve a break today !!

they say that your feet should not hurt if you are wearing the right shoes. maybe you need to get new balance or some other type of shoes. hope this helps. hang in there. :loveya:

while good shoes are important, sometimes you just walk enough that even walking in clouds would hurt at the end of 12 hours :p

And I get to throw diabetic neuropathy into the mix. Sometimes when I finally get to lie down and put my feet up, the pain is even more unbearable.

rhia, whine away! that is ridiculous. your poor tootsies! not to mention your poor brain, back, kidneys, and tummy. gee, and they wonder why nurses get burned out. :o i wear danskos too & am due for another pair. you can really tell when they've just worn out.

what a hard day you had. i hope you got to soak your feet and sleep, sleep, sleep. there are some days that advil can't touch. my heating pad and i are very close. i would rather have a foot or a neck rub than just about anything else in the world. luckily, my sweetie is aware of this.

when can you have a day off?! :icon_hug:

Thanks guys! Such a minor thing to complain about considering all we see in nursing, but there you go. I don't know when my next day 'off' will be, but I don't go back to work for a few nights, lol.

NurseMike- thanks for laugh. Comedy and a dose of reality, some of my favorite medicine!

TeenieBert, my work Danskos usually last about a year for work puropses, then the soles start to go flat and I use them for the garden/yardwork or everyday wear if they are a dark color that can be disinfected and look decent. The first pair I bought for work lasted over two years, arches stayed nice and high, but the sole finally cracked. The first pair of everyday ones I bought almost five years ago are still in good shape. I buy the closed back clogs, so I've never had a heel strap. I've tried just about everything when it comes to work shoes; I have insanely high arches and I have found that if I'm not wearing Danksos, my feet, legs, and back hurt badly. I think maybe they changed how they make them because after the first pair, I've noticed I walk my work ones flat long before they wear out otherwise.

Epsom salt and putting my feet up- there's the ticket. I know that, but was too whiney this AM to think of it. The legs up against the wall helps w/ back pain too. I have some lavender epsom salts somewhere........

Bedrest after 36 weeks is every pregnant nurse's dream- I know it was mine!
