Just took the nclex, damn was it hard?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

hey allnurses, i just took the nclex. It shut me off at 75 question! Damn was it confusing, so it was vague, questions were definitly really short not like uworld. Seemed like it went straight to the point. I did the "PVT" and used my real cc information. Got the good pop up, and still in disbelief. Now, i don't wanna go too much in detail but man, i felt like it was hard and easy at the same time.

Here are my scores, during nursing school, we did hesi, got 80% conversion score

During uworld, got 61.6% overall

1 assessment got 73% at 94th percentile

2nd assessment got 70% and 91st percentile overall.

I also used lacharity, did up to 19 chapters with and overall of 60 percent (im guessing)

guys the nclex was alot different from these resources. It was hard to me because it was vague. I hope i had passed because all of my classmates who had passed, did the pvt and it was accurate for them. Stay strong ya'll it was a hard test but easy at the same time. in the end, i came out feeling defeated like most nclex takers. I still feel like i failed so i am assuming that i failed until i see my results. Should i celebrate now? Or wait till i know i passed?

good news everyone! i passed!

Congrats RN!! I'm taking the NCLEX next week and I've never been more anxious for a test in my life. Every time I finally feel like I'm learning something, when I do a practice question I find something else I don't know :( I've been improving in my Kaplan scores, but I have this fear that everything on the NCLEX is gonna happen to be things I don't know/didn't study! I can only hope I can call myself an RN after next week! Any tips to ease anxiety?

So I took the NCLEX today!! Shut off at 75 questions. Praying so hard that I passed!! It had me do the research question section at the end, and someone told me that was a good sign? Lol. I'm not going to do the PVT. Promised myself I wouldn't, and just wait it out. My state (NJ) has 48hr quick results, but my classmates who have taken it already had their license # posted to our BON within 24hrs so I'm going to start checking that tomorrow afternoon! I would say half were SATA and I felt like I had a lot of maternity questions too. 1 EKG strip, maybe 1 or 2 drag and drop, and the rest were multiple choice. What a weird exam lol. I literally have NO IDEA if I passed or failed. Hopefully I passed though!! Congrats 2016srnfcc on passing!!!!

Congratulations!

I PASSED!!!!! Holy **** balls!

Congrats! I'm taking mine next week. How did you study? Any advice? I'm feeling overwhelmed right now. Not sure if I'm focusing on the right things.

Thank you!! I did a Kaplan 3 day live session (my school required it) and did most of their trainers and some of their qbank. Over the last 4 weeks I've been doing questions from Uworld. I didn't have the money to buy it for myself, so when she passed she gave me her login info to use the questions. I couldn't track my overall progress and I didn't have any of their readiness style tests, but just doing the questions (75-150/day) was great. Their rationales are AMAZING too. I learned SO MUCH MORE just from their rationales. I swear. If you can afford it, BUY IT. even though the questions on the NCLEX aren't really like the actual NCLEX questions (which mostly are kind of random and vague and your like *****), it helps your brain get into the mindset needed for the exam. I promise you you won't know half the questions they ask you lol. REALLY get comfortable with SATA questions. Most importantly, TRUST YOURSELF. Take deep breaths, take mini mental breaks as often as you need to, but don't take too long per question. Spend only 1-2 mins per questions. DON'T over analyze the questions either. They are very short and to the point. Choose your answer the same way. You got this!!!

Thank you! I've been doing uworld, now I'm recycling my questions. So you found uworld to be helpful? I'm starting to get a knot in my tummy now.

Yes! Uworld helped for sure. You won't see as good as questions on the NCLEX but Uworld helps make you feel more comfortable in both knowledge and strategy in my opinion. Redo all the questions you got wrong and read ALL the rationales. You'll do great!!

Thank you hun! Anything I should focus on?

I personally had a good amount of maternity. Since we all get different tests, it's hard to say what one should focus on in terms of a subject area. My advice is to get comfortable with SATA questions, priority questions DEFINITELY, and lab values. Don't stress when you get a med that you've never heard of either. You're gonna get questions about stuff you literally have never heard of or maybe read like a paragraph about way back in fundamentals lol. IT'S OK!!! You aren't an expert. In Uworld I would do anywhere from 10-30 questions per test and I would do them on all subject areas. Every once in a while I would do a 10 question quiz on just one subject (usually my week areas) like pharmacology or maternity. It is more about how you prioritize and apply your knowledge base rather than your ACTUAL knowledge base. Think about patient safety and the patient above all else!!

Thanks a lot! Now I feel a lil better.
