Hello all! I am new to this site and am currently completing my pre-req's. I just got my acceptance letter from a local ADN Program for the Spring 2005 semester. The only problem is that I applied not expecting to be accepted! A good friend of mine is also trying for Nursing school and we both suggested that we start in Fall 2005 so we can be in the same class. Should I go ahead and start in Spring 2005 or wait until Fall 2005? I am really confused and would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

hi niki, i was in a similar situation. i didn't expect to be accepted to my bsn program so got a full time job, and was accepted!

i think you have to go for it. so many people on this board are saying how it is so hard to get into nsg school these days..you can't turn it down and risk not getting in next year or not being able to defer your acceptance. i understand you wanted to be with your friend, but i am sure she/he will understand!

congrats and best of luck

Why would you want to wait? :uhoh21: Nursing school acceptances are hard to come by. I would take the seat, as there is no garauntee that a seat will be available for you if you decide to wait.

First off - Congratulations on your acceptance!! :balloons:

Now, where I live if you get an acceptance letter you jump on it - Especially with the ADN programs - we tend to get 400 applicants for 50 seats - and I know of many who continue to apply every year waiting for "their turn" - I applied for the ADN at the Community College I attended and the BSN program at another college and I got into the BSN as a transfer because some people dropped out of the program and I did not get accepted at the ADN and I'm on the Dean's list there......Needless to say I "jumped" on the offer I received because I have completed all of my pre and co reqs and I knew eventually I would have continued my education to obtain my BSN anyways...

After all of that..... I guess what I am saying is look at your school, is it easy to get a seat or is there a high demand for seats in that program? If there is a high demand I would thank my lucky stars and go for the Spring semester....

Good Luck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to thank everyone for their replies! You all are great. I am going to go with my gut and go for it. I just don't want my friend to be angry with me. I just hope she'll be happy for me.

Welcome and Congrats on being accepted it's an awesome feeling! I would take that spot and go. However, it depends on how many prerqs you have out of the way too. If you have most of your prerqs done go for it. You can't turn down your spot because of your friend. Let me tell you a little story:

My best friend and I started taking prerqs at the same time. However, she had attended college before and already had alot out of the way. She was accepted into the program and I was not. While my friend entered her first year of nursing school, I continued to take prereqs. Then I was accepted for the following fall. This worked out great to my advantage. I already had someone I trusted who had the same instructors I did and she helped me out so much. I also helped her when she was stressed and needed support. I attended her pinning ceremony in May and she just took her boards two days ago. I still have another year left but we are still the best of friends and were still able to support each other even though we were a year appart in our nursing studies. So, therefore I say go for it.

I agree with what everyone else says. While it would be nice to have a friend in the program with you...this is YOUR future and you should go for it. You'll be done a semester sooner and believe me, you'll like that. Just let your friend know that you will be willing to give her the heads up on how it is. If you two have a strong enough relationship, she'll understand.

you need to take that slot! nursing programs in my area are continuously upping their admission requirements. the school you got accepted into may change their policy in such a way you will not get in the next semester. also, if your friend is a true friend she may be a little disappointed that you will not be in the same class, but that will be pushed away by her happiness for you being able to start sooner. a true friend would want you to do whatever was best for you no matter what. i bet she will be thrilled.

Oooh! Oooh! Send that letter to me! Do you think it's transferrable? I so want to get off of this waiting list.

Seriously, take that slot! You are so fortunate to have this opportunity, don't think for a minute about putting it off. If your friend gets upset, she'll get over it or she won't. In either case, you will

be a nursing student and based on her reaction, you will know what kind of person your friend is.

Congratulations. :balloons:

I think your friend will understand and at the same time be happy for you. You both are striving for the same goal. If she starts a year after you nothing is wrong with that just tell her you will be able to help her because you would have already taken the classes that she will be taking by that time.

I don't think you have anything to worry about I know she will be happy for you. And yes acceptances are few and far between so you are lucky be proud of yourself and if she is your friend she will be proud of you also. :)

Congratulations,

Congratulations on your acceptance and your decision. I think your friend would be dissapointed if you didn't take the slot. Look at is this way, the 2 of you will only be 1 semester apart in your nursing studies, and that's not that bad.

I'd got for it and take the slot also. If you friend gets a little angry just let them know you will be able to give them a heads up on what to expect and study for, that should make them happy. Good luck!
