Congratulations to you! I'm a new grad and still looking to land my first job as a new RN. I'm curious about something..Do you have a 2 or 4 year(BSN) nursing degree? I'm curious to know if the VA will even consider ADN nurses(what I am) or if they REALLY prefer BSN nurses like most of other hospitals? I've applied to a few positions with the VA but no calls. Thanks and congrats again!! :)
It has been a long journey( I have been licensed as a new RN since September),but well worth the wait. I, like many other new Rn's have found the job market to be very challenging lately. I applied for numerous(50 or more) jobs in the VA,DC area since then with 5 interviews and no call backs. I was very discouraged and heartbroken since I have been a nurse (LPN) for 15 years and just moving to the area thought it would be a piece of cake. Well it was not. I did not find out till the end of February that I got the VA job, only to find out it was kind of on hold due to budget issues. I stuck it out, and started the long application process at the beginning of march and finally have a start date. It finally feels real:). I can't wait to be back on the floor again so I can continue my life as a nurse. I am now a RN:):)Too all the news grads, keep at it. There are jobs out there, you just have to be in the right place at the right time. I watched the Va job board for a year and applied to everything and I guess my persistence paid off. Good luck to all!
Congrats took me months to get hired. Been at VA 6 mos. Still a learning process
