Hi just found this site and in absoulte auw (not sure if I spelled that correctly)of everyone here. Im 33, I was a dental assistant for awhile, left that field to have my family now that my daughter is getting older (3.5 yo) and a little more independent i am considering school. I was going to go back to dentistry but in the process of researching i stumbled upon my local community college nursing program. And I just thought "that's what I want to do!!" I have always dreamed of being in the medical field and working in the hospital. but something always comes up. I will be talking with an advisor this week on how to get started. I have some of the pre reqs done from attending in previous years. One of my goals is to get a college degree-i regret so much no going to college after high school. I want to prove to me & the world that I can do it!!!!:yeah:I thought maybe I'd be too old to start something like this but after reading some of the posts i think not! Thanks!

JNC,
Welcome! I am new as well, and I love this site. I firmly believe that if you have the drive, passion, persistence, and the HEART you could become a wonderful nurse, regardless of age!

Congrats on going back! Yes, it does deserve a congrats. It's a tough decision to make when you feel like you're too old. I'm 28 and my SIL is 31, and we're both going right now to get our pre-reqs/co-reqs out of the way. She's got a 5 y.o., and I have a 4 and 2 y.o. My biggest concern was feeling out of place in class, especially because I go during the day, during the week where most of the students are full-time, right out of high school. All of this was confirmed yesterday when I started my first class, and all but one of the other students had just graduated high school within the last two years. I can already tell though, that I'll easily be a better student than most of them. They were already complaining about the class half-way through, and I'm just ready to tackle it.
This site has helped a TON too, because I found out that I'm not anywhere close to being the oldest student out there, and it's never too late to go back. As a matter of fact, the older students, especially those with children, seem to do better than some (not all) of the students who don't have other responsibilities. There's a lot to be said for life experience, work ethic, and time management skills when you're going back to school and balancing it with taking care of children and/or a home AND working, and quite often those come with age. So, again, congrats and good luck to you!

I have a 2 year old I am a single parent, and I work full time. Including preqs ( I have 4 to take, 3 this semester and 1 next) I will be 31 when I'm done. I think I'll be a better student now than 12 years ago when I just got out of highschool. I have some much depending on my sucess now. I didn't have that before.
Don't know whay your political preference is, but the saying YES WE CAN feels good in this situation.
