Just finished taking NCLEX...

Published

I just finished taking my test & I had 75 questions. This was my 3rd time taking it. I don't know how I feel about it. I had at least 5-7 select all that apply, no math, a couple of meds & TONS of priority, 2 delegation questions two pediatrics questions, 2-3 external disaster questions, & basic lab questions.

The first time I took the test I had 75 & obviously we all know what happened there, the second time I had 265 questions. With each time, I'm a little more prepared. I do tend to procrastinate though, which I hate.

I would suggest doing practice questions & knowing patho.

I was getting bummed because I talked to a former classmate to tell him my test breakdown, & he said, "Oh no, if you got a lot of select all that apply questions, is that good or bad?" I told him that I didn't know. Then he said, "I talked to so-and-so & she said she got a lot of those, & she failed. I think they keep giving them if you keep messing them up." That wasn't what I needed to hear. Now the waiting game begins.

Here are two of the select all that apply that I had:

A nurse would expect to observe the following in an 8 month old:

-can hold own bottle

-sits unsupported

-moro reflex present

-anterior fontanelle closed

-two teeth have erupted

-anxiety with strangers

Here's another one (not verbatim, except for the answer choices):

Client with pacemaker inserted 2 days ago. The nurse would:

-begin cardiac monitoring

-administer analgesics

-perform ROM of arm on affected side

-maintain patient on bedrest for 24 hours

-teach about pacemakers

-check incision for redness & drainage

I think that was all of the choices for this one.

Hi pie123,

I am with you on the waiting. About the alternate format questions: I have been told by nursing instructors that these questions are still in the testing phase and will not become a part of your score until sometime this fall. I hope this eases your mind some.

Well, I took my exam yesterday also. I got all 265 questions. I feel like a complete idiot. I had 1 drug calculation, tons of priority, 5-6 select alls, lots of psych., lots of meds (ones that I had never even heard of), I prety much had lots of everything. I walkd out of the testing center knowing that I failed. And, if there is a slight chance that I passed, then I will be convinced that they give licenses to morons, b/c I felt like I didn't know anything. I was scorin in the 60's on the Kaplan review, I thought I was good to go. Hopefully can get my results today. I think I'll die if I have to wait until tomorrow. Pray for me please!

You're in my prayers...since I've been praying nearly every second of the day. I'm playing that waiting game and trying to keep my faith. You graduated nursing school--which is probably the toughest, most cutthroat training I believe anyone can go through--so I'm sure you did better than you feel right now...I know I feel the same way at times.

Good luck...and let us know when you get your results.

There are fifteen sample questions that do not count against you...they are survery queations....to see how people do....but they are distributed thorough out your test.........if this helps...I was also told they were all in the new format set up.......I thinkl that means select all that apply........

at least some of them.............................PIE have you heard anything about your test yet????????????????????? Thressa

Hi Pie I have been seeing your posts for a while and I think I have even talked with you before. I can tell you that I think your confidence level has increased over the past few experiences and I think that means alot. So I know that you did great this time. I am in a RN program and I am going to take my LPN boards 7-6. Then in December I will graduate and hopefully take the RN in January. I know you did great, Keep me posted. Can you share experiences with me about your percentages on practice exams or does it not make a difference is it just the luck of the draw.

Thank you so much for the comment regarding my confidence-if I am the one that you talked to before. My test scores were nuts. At first they made me nervous, then I thought, "As long as you're learning with each test, try not to panic." I used the Kaplan Question Trainer CD & was scoring like low-to-mid 60's & one one, then a 72%, & then an 82%. I did worst on test 3--which was like 57%. I did not do all of the tests though, because I'm an idiot. I kind of get bored with one thing, so I have to switch around a lot. I have another CD that I used somewhat, I was getting anywhere from 72% to 90% (one time) on that one. I TRULY think that practicing questions in general helps-especially on the computer, in conjunction with reviewing actual content that you are not familiar with. If I do not make it this time, this is what I will do. I kind of did it this time, but not like I probably should have. Also with the practicing questions on the computer, it REALLY helped with easing anxiety when I was at the computer taking my test. In a way, it kind of feels like you're doing more practice questions, only it's a little more serious than that :).

Oh! Thanks! This does help. I hope it's the case. Lord knows (& my husband) that I need to pass this thing!

Oh, you asked me if percentages on the practice exams make a difference. Well, at first, I thought they didn't. I say this because I had one classmate who got a 65% on her Readiness test & passed NCLEX. Another got in the mid-80's & failed NCLEX. She was doing practice questions consistently & the other person was hit-and-miss with questions. I think they did them 'sometimes' but not consistently. So, I think they got lucky on their Readiness test. I know you're still in school, but if you can, try to do practice questions NOW! Even 10 per day helps-until you can finish school & devote more time to doing them. I wish I had done this while I was in school. I was busy, but I KNOW that I had time to do at least 10-20 questions per night.

Well, I'm here. I don't know how I'm doing so-so, just waiting. Part of me wants to start reading again. I took my book to work last night & read a little bit. My friend told me, "Let your brain rest!" So I put it away, but not far away. I still carry it around, like it's my baby! Thank you for checking in with me!

PIE>>>>I feel sort of empty and feel weird not studying all the time but also am enjoying my freedom...PUT THE BOOK AWAY....RELAX and become a actual real person again...wait until you see if you pass before you start lugging that darn book around.....give yourself a rest....you deserve it..........

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: RELAX................I still know you did fine....THRESSA

Good luck hon! I'm sure you did fine!

Thank you all for your encouraging words. I just sat around all day moping and watching tv. I am so nervous about my scores. I will find out tomorrow morning. I hate the waiting game. I just know that I failed it, and I wish that they would just tell me that so I can start studying again. I'll let you all know tomorrow.
