June 2010 CRNE Results

Published

I don't want to start the posts too early, but I was just wondering if anyone knew how long it is actually supposed to take to get results this year. I know that some people I worked with last summer got theirs in early-mid July. I checked out the CNO website and the CNA website (and a few others along the way) one says 8-12 weeks and the other says 4-6. I'm already driving myself crazy...if I have to wait another 8+ weeks I'll end up really going off the deep end :uhoh3:

Thanks. I guess that's a relief. Some things you would rather experience alone before sharing with an employer! Any word on the pass mark for the exam? Anyone...?

Yes, there's word on the pass mark, in posts 25, 29 and 59. It's somewhere between 59% and 68%. BUT IT DOESN"T MATTER. The only ones who get a score are the ones who were close to passing as an encouragement to try again. So far, we haven't heard from anyone who has failed.

as for the pass mark, a friend told me its 121 out of 200. i think its fair enough.

Where did the friend hear that? Each exam (I believe there are 4) have different pass marks r/t their difficulty.

on june 2 everyone who wrote the exam wrote exactly the same exam no matter where they wrote. the pass for each exam is determined by its difficulty, as assessed by the canadian nurses' association. from faq - the canadian registered nurse examination (crne)

  • how is the exam scored? for multiple choice questions there is only one correct response for each question. there may be responses that are similar or contain partially correct responses, but there will only be one absolutely correct response and each correct response is given one mark. the multiple choice section is marked by computer scan. the short answer questions have three parts. scoring is performed by a team of content experts based on the presence of correct responses matching those on the scorer's list of acceptable responses. marks are awarded on a scale from 0-3; part marks are possible for partially correct responses. however, multiple choice and short answer questions are weighted identically so in order to receive a mark for a short answer question, all responses must be correct. the two parts are scored separately; the total number of points achieved on the short answer questions are added up then divided by 3 to obtain the aggregate score for that section. the two sections are then added together to obtain the final mark.

  • what's a passing mark on the crne? the standard passing score ranges from 59-68%. but the standard passing score is determined by the level of difficulty of the exam as established by the crne examination committee. each exam is set by the committee using a pool of thousands of stock questions created by nursing educators across the country. the pool of questions is constantly changing, as is the composition of the exam. no two exams are ever more than superficially similar. the actual mark achieved only matters as it compares to the standard set for that specific exam. results are reported to the candidate as either "pass" or "fail". occasionally the cna will provide a score to the failing candidate in an effort to assist with succeeding on subsequent attempts but generally speaking you will not receive a score.

121/200 = 60.5%...

weird... i thought there were 20 experimental questions on the exam... the exam was a total of 208 questions...meaning if it was out of 200... then only 8 were experimental? ohwell...doesn't really matter... still waiting for results!!

That was what I meant... I have read the literature from the CNA.... I was curious to the number of expiramental questions, as well as the pass mark according to the level of difficulty of THIS exam... 120/200 is 60%.. I too thought that there were more than 8 expiramental questions.... Personally I was hoping the expiramental questions were at the end since I had to rush to finish in time..... The waiting and ambiguity is torture! Did everyone else out there finish the exam with plenty of time?

i know 6 people in NL that failed, thats alot for here. We usually have a 98%-100% pass rate. A girl who failed got a 118 and she needed 121....good luck

Hey,

Yeah I found the exam really difficult and I was there until the end. I was panicking and rushed like the last 15-20 questions. But I did see a lot of people leave like 1.5 hr into the exam time and I do not know how they did it!! Was making me feel more nervous during the exam time.. The thing I found frustrating was that when people were done writing their exams... the invigulators and the people done the exam... were extremely noisy when handing in their exam... I could hear the questions being asked... and it was just frustrating because I could not concentrate!! I deno if it was like that everywhere you guys wrote, but in Nanaimo, BC it was. I wish they took their exam outside the doors when they were done to hand in and someone would be there. Anyways, goodluck everyone

Thank you for your post. I rushed through a few more then that, and am terrified that will tip the scale for me  I wrote in Ottawa and the man who proctored our exam was demeaning and screamed at us both before and after the exam. Obviously this only added to the already anxious environment. Actually several of my colleagues are planning to submit complaints but are waiting for their results first. I can't really place the blame for my exam anxiety on anyone else ~ but we did not write in silence or comfort here in Ontario either. All I can do is pray for a positive outcome. I don't care how well I did if only Please God let me pass! Good luck everyone who like me is on pins and needles..... :redbeathe

I am so sorry for your friends. It is so much hard work to complete the BScN then to have it all ride on 1 exam. I am working under a temp license and have been praised several times for my critical thinking, caring, and conscienciousness (sp?). All that being said... I had bad anxiety throughout the exam and my exam result may not reflect my capabilities - which is probably true for your friends. My condolences to them...

He was rude and over-the-top to say the least, but I'd caution anyone who is going to file complaints. I wouldn't want to get on anyone's bad side at the CNO.
