Hi,
I'm new at this posting thing but it seems really helpful to talk to other people going through the same process of finding good schools and applying for the highly competitive programs. I figured i would try and start a new thread for anyone who is applying for the program that start at JU in May of 2011! :) Best of luck to everyone
Hello,I'm new to this forum. I will be attending JU's 2nd degree program starting in may and am excited about all the cool stuff we have to look forward to.
I have never been to Jax before and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on where a nice and convenient place to live would be.
Thanks in advance and look forward to meeting everyone.
Welcome and congrats!!! :) I got accepted into the transfer program starting in May and we will have the same schedule up until the second summer. So I look forward to meeting you! I have lived in several places all around Jacksonville and I must say Bartram Park area has been my favorite! I am not sure if you are looking for a house/apartment/townhome/condo....etc.
It is about 25-30 minutes from JU but I personally prefer the drive than to live over there!
Good luck finding something around here! It's a great place to live!
Thank you for the idea of Bartram Park. I had not heard of that area.Like I said I am not familiar with the area but it seems like not many people live that close to campus. Why is that?
Also, how is the driving and parking situation by the university?
Well personally...I just don't like the area. Traffic can be messy, but it isn't to bad! It is a straight shot on the highway from pretty much anywhere so no matter where you are the drive is not bad. I have been there a few times and parking doesn't seem to bad but ofcourse I have only been as a visitor so not sure how student parking works. I am going to the school tomorrow to pay my enrollment fee so if I find out anything more I will let you know! :)
If you have a facebook add me if you want (My name is in an earlier post). We can all get to know eachother a little before classes start!

Yes, you should check out the Bartram Park area I actually am a leasing consultant at Indigo Apartments in Bartram so you should come and see them. My name is Andrea so you are more than welcome to ask for me I will be happy to give you a tour. :)
Hey everyone I've started adding people to the group, let me know your name so I can add you!
Also, being born and raised in Jax I have some advice on where to live if you are not from town. JU is located off of Univ. Ave which is really not a great side of town to rent a condo or apartment. I would not recommend living over there. Most people who live over there are homeowners who live near the nicer area on the water. If you are looking to live close to school rent a house, apartment or condo I would suggest not going any farther west than Riverside/avondale/5 points. Great fun area of town, beautiful and historic! Downtown Jax is literally 5-10 min driving in the AM even in traffic. 11E is an apartment building or the Carling. They are both very nice and awesome! Southside area is also very nice but traffic can get pretty bad. Coventry Park is new, reasonable, and pretty close. I would not suggest living at the beach because it will be a commute.

Also, 9A is not too far down the road and usually traffic on that road is not as bad as others. There are plenty of nice apts and condos off of 9A to choose from as well.
To Everyone,
Thank you all so much for the advice. I really appreciate it. Gavra I will def. check out indigo apts. and ask for you.
I'm moving from CA and only "know" one person in Jax (a cousin I've never met) so as one can imagine I am excited but also a little nervous about such a big move. The help with learning about certain areas has been great so I can kind of get a general idea of where to check out first.
