JTCC fall 2011 acceptance

Good afternoon! I applied to John Tyler community college's nursing program for fall 2011, back in the beginning of February. I am so nervous about finding out if I was accepted, but I am becoming more and more impatient everyday when the letter is not in the mail. Does anyone know when I should find out?? I was wondering how many students are waiting to buy the box of books with the nursing skills dvds and evolve select or how many students will just try to find everything used and not use the evolve select feature?

Also, the choice of stethoscopes is very large! How may students plan to buy a brand other than littman?

At orientation it sounded like books probably wont be available at the bookstore until about a week (2 if we are lucky) before school starts. Im going to bite the bullet and do the book box, that way I KNOW I have everything Im supposed to.

Im going with a midrange Littman, with my name engraved on it to help lessen the chance of it walking away! Reviews on Amazon.com of other brands have been very helpful though. :)

I normally am all for the buying online for books (tends to be cheeper), but I also like having the books online to read and I haven't been able to find that option yet (except through the box of books).

As far as the stethoscope, I am going to take my mom's (a nurse) advise and buy a cheaper one (MDX is the brand I think) to work with until year 2 then buy a Littman.

after speaking with the midlo bookstore the box of books will. not be available till a week before classes start :( I will be getting it, they said bring a friend for its very heavy! as for the stethoscope I got a littman with the matchmates set on Amazon for 109 and it included a bp cuff amd litman classic II so far I like it :)

I think it's patently asinine to not have the books available earlier. We were advised to read around TWENTY-ONE chapters before classes start, to familiarize ourselves with the material, and feel comfortable, yet the books won't be available until the first week of August at the earliest, and most likely not until the week before classes.

I feel this is entirely unacceptable on the school's part. The bookstore (and school) know how many students are going to be in the classes.. they know how many and what books we need, and they know when classes start. I understand there are shipping and purchasing logistics to consider, but their seemingly-lackadaisical attitude toward this issue is disheartening. I managed to purchase the Dimensional Analysis book to re-familiarize myself with dosage and measurements (I used to work in Pharmacy), so I'm quite happy with that, but not having any single other book available is just sad.

Agreed. I had to shake my head when we got the long list of chapters they recommended we read before the start of class only to learn 5 minutes later that the books more than likely wouldnt be available until a week before classes start.

Guess I know what I'm doing that week! Read, read, read lol.

Mini-Murse, are you in the traditional or HDEP track?

Does anyone have the list of books that they can scan in? My doctor has my paperwork and my copy is on our computer that my husband took with him on a trip. I will gladly do searching for everyone to see if I can find the books at a decent price.
