Greetings Everyone!
I know this is early to make a thread for the Fall 2011 Hopkins Applicants! But still, it is better to start getting ready than waiting at the last minute! I highly suggest everyone start getting your letters of recommendations, and just hide it until you are ready to apply. I will be applying and submitting my application around September 2010 as an early decision applicant for Fall 2011.
I have to finish up Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Developmental Psychology, and one more chemistry class this coming Summer 2010. During the Fall of 2010 and Spring 2011, I will be finishing up just general requirements like history, Microbiology, English Composition, Statistics, some foreign languages, and humanities (elective classes).
I will be applying for the BSN Traditional Program considering I do not have a degree, thus, I am not qualified to apply for the accelerated program. I'm really excited about this.
I will only be applying to UPenn and Johns Hopkins University for my BSN traditional program. If I do not get accepted, I will be attending my current university's school of nursing. I am already in the university's nursing program, but I don't start clinical preceptorship until 2 years from now.
I will graduate May 2013 regardless where I go. Either JHU or UPenn or stay at my current university.
If I will be accepted at either JHU or UPenn, then definitely I will be attending those schools! I love nursing research, and I want to learn more about research and providing quality care to our patients.
We will see how it will go. I have six months until I submit my application to both schools. Remember time is running fast.
Hope everyone are doing well on their pre-requisites! Good luck to all!
Feel free to post around so we can help each other for Fall 2011! I've read the thread for the JHU Fall 2010. I've noticed everyone in that thread got accepted, and some waitlisted! Its a good sign!
Have a wonderful day!

Hello Everyone!
I'm new to the thread... I applied for the Accelerated BSN/MSN with Clinical Residency 2011. I had my interview the last week of October and I am waiting to hear back. I've had so much anxiety that I emailed Ms. Lee, this afternoon, to see if notifications have been sent.
I heard that when you are accepted they call you directly!
Hi Cartweel! So glad that you started this tread!
It was very informal and I lead the conversation. I wish that I could have a do-over! For some reason, I was a bucket of nerves...
Here are the questions (or something like them):
How do you feel about your writing abilities?
How do you feel about public speaking?
How are your test taking skills?
How do you work as part of a group?
Why do you want to attend this program?
And, there is one more, but I can't recall.
I'm sure that you will do a great job. The faculty at JHUSON is very personable and they find the positive in all their applicants and students.
Thank you for the luck on a possible acceptance. JHU is my preference. If I never return to this thread that means that I'm working on plan B! Otherwise, I will keep you posted.
Remember to be yourself tomorrow! And, good luck.
Hi Everyone....
Quick Question....Did anyone have an essay that was over 300 words. My last essay is about 325 words. I've really tried to eliminate some of the words. I've gotten it down from 450 words. But I'm having trouble eliminating any more words. I hate words limits....LOL
Has anyone else run into this issue?
Hi PHL,
Thanks for sharing the info about your interview with JHUSON. Btw, I too applied for the same program. In fact, I got info about the program mid Oct via email, and got my application completed by 20th Oct. Had my phone interview 3 days ago and I guess it went just fine. Seriously, is more of a general chatting than an interview as I was the one leading the conversation.
Basically, my interviewer (JoAnne) wanted to be sure if I really know what am getting into and with my knowledge about the program vis-a-vis the sacrifice that will be involved on my part. At the end she said I should be hearing from them in next one to two weeks.
I wish everyone of us good luck as we are waiting for the final admission decisions.

Hi T-Dasha,
I went over my 300 word limit on 2/3 of my essays. I have faith that they'll appreciate a well-written essay over one that fits inside a "box". Good luck!
Hi All -
Had my interview this morning. I was so nervous that I can hardly remember the questions. I think there were about 10 or so and included something along the lines of:
How has your life experiences contributed to choosing nursing?
Why are you choosing Hopkins?
Where do you see yourself working?
Why are you choosing to apply to the master's program at this time?
Is there anything else you would like the admissions committee to know that you didn't include in your application?
Also included were the questions that PHL1215 previously mentioned about evaluating your writing, public speaking, test taking, and group project skills.
Overall, it was a very relaxed tone and just one person on the line. For some reason I thought there were going to be multiple people on their end. I was relieved when it was just the admissions director and me.
I really hope they call me in 4 weeks...FOUR WEEKS!!!!!
C.
When I applied, one of my resumes went over by about 20-30 words and I was accepted. However, if it obviously exceeds the limit by a significant amount they view it as an indication of your ability to follow directions.
And if you are accepted, they will call you. They really seem to enjoy delivering the good news!
Good luck!

Hi Lolita!
Wow, Ecuador! Although we've served in two completely different parts of the world, I've been told that we'll find similarities in our experiences. That's so cool, you probably studied Spanish (and an ethnic language?). I just got back in August. That's not an excuse but it's a reason why I didn't have enough time to register for many classes this semester. I'm still struggling to put my life back in order!
I'm applying to the traditional BSN. I haven't ever tried an online class but will consider it if it's necessary. My main concerns are the hard sciences and I'm usually awkward in labs
But that too shall pass...
I'm going to double check with admissions but I'm optimistic that you and Cartwheel are right regarding my prereqs. Every time I think about December 15th I get anxious! And of course, being imaginative, I wonder if anyone had ever gotten a doctor to write a note to the school telling them that it's unhealthy to keep their patient/applicant waiting.
I'm so glad for this forum!
