Johns Hopkins Nurse Residency 2021

Published

Hi guys! I know it's pretty early to start applying, but I'm looking for other people that are planning on applying to Johns Hopkins for their Nurse residency in 2021! I started this thread so we can follow each other throughout the process.

Hello, I'll be graduating in December. Does anyone know when the applications will open up? Also, is there a specific application for the children's center in Baltimore? I only see applications for adult medicine.

Hi, @ShellztheNP2b! So the Johns Hopkins Hospital has a rolling, year-round Nurse Residency Program, and they hire on a monthly basis (approximately 35 new grads hired per month, 350 total per year). The different campuses, specialty areas, units, and departments that are hiring aren't always the same, and they hire based on need at the time.

Nurse Recruitment prefers that you apply about 4 months prior to your graduation date. That being said, I got hired 6 months after my graduation date, my 5th time applying to Johns Hopkins Medicine, so there's wiggle room: especially if you show your passion. Here's a link to the JHH-NRP web page, I recommend checking it out:
https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/nursing/jobs/nurse-residency-program/

I would also recommend that you make a Linkedin profile based off of your resume, that's where I found/applied to my new grad position in the ER. Or when you're 4 months out, you can start looking directly on the company's careers website at:

Hope this helps! ?

Thank you so much!

Hi! I recently got a job offer for Johns Hopkins PICU but I have heard rough things about actually living in Baltimore, especially safety/crime wise. Can anyone share some realistic insight? Is it safe, if so where and what places do you recommend for a new commer!

Congratulations, @claireRN, and to all the new grads who got offered positions! I was also offered a position at JHH yesterday, in the Adult Emergency Department and I'm excited to be part of the Nurse Residency Program with you guys!! I'm moving to Baltimore from California, and I'm really stoked to be starting at my number one choice of hospitals and specialty areas for the next 12 months. It's gonna be great!

A little scary... but also great ?

Congrats!! Im on a very similar boat as you, from CA! Any tips on which areas are the safest?

@Future PICU nurse congrats to you as well! Are you starting in October or November? I'm personally looking in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood next to Midtown just because it's more my scene. But here's a link to some blogs (see below) that summarizes the neighborhoods pretty throughly based on safety.

I personally have family that lives in the Baltimore area and it's not as bad as many cities in California. Definitely some areas to avoid, but I guess being from Modesto I'm just kinda used to that ?

@claireRN@Future PICU nurse Congrats guys on Hopkins! I'm also from Ca and just finished the new grad residency at Hopkins. I'm actually moving back home so if anyone is interested in taking over my lease or needs info on housing let me know!

Congratulations to everyone who received interviews/positions! I was just offered a position in the New Graduate Residency on the OB/Perinatal unit, starting in November. I'm moving to Baltimore from the Chicago area and already have a roommate, but I'm hoping to connect with others who will be joining the JHH as new graduate nurses. If anyone has any recommendations about the area I'd love to know!

Hi, Claire! Congratulations! I just got an email about setting up an interview for the OB/Perinatal Unit and was wondering if you had any advice for the interview? This would be a DREAM job for me, so I want to prepare the best I can.

Hi all, I was offered a position on the OB/perinatal unit. I have a few days to decide if I'm taking the position and would love to connect with others. Like many of you I'm not from that area and have never been to JHH or even Baltimore.

Hi! IDK if I'll be much help, but I was contacted to interview for OB/Perinatal and was wondering if you had any words of wisdom/advice for the interview? Congrats on your offer!

The interview was pretty laid back. Just be yourself! Be ready to talk about why you want that particular unit, not just any unit.

I'm glad it was laid back! How long post-interview did it take before you heard back about an offer?
