Johns Hopkins Nurse Residency 2021

Published

Hi guys! I know it's pretty early to start applying, but I'm looking for other people that are planning on applying to Johns Hopkins for their Nurse residency in 2021! I started this thread so we can follow each other throughout the process.

Hello everyone,

I know this post is from last year but I wanted to reach out to those who have already started working at JHH to give an insight about your experience working there and the unit. I have multiple offers in various depts at JHH (so grateful) and my start date is in August. I am trying to schedule my 'shadowing' opportunities in the unit to which I will be working. But I am a bit nervous moving into MD. I also have multiple job offers in my current state so I am trying to weigh my options about JHH's awesome opportunity. I also have an idea where I' going to live as I am not familiar with the area. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your feedback!

Hey! I think learning at JHH has been amazing so far. The facilities are incredible, staffing is always decent, I really feel the education is great and the patient load is diverse and amazing to learn from. Having JHH on your resume is also going to be incredible. But as someone else said, their pay is kind of ***. It feels like they know their name is worth more than good pay or something. Baltimore in general (so far) is pretty meh to me. I don't regret choosing the job at JHH, I'm very glad I'm here and grateful for the opportunity, but I have no intention of staying long term. If you could get a shadow, I'd definitely do it! And you just have to weigh which things are important to you as far as pay/location/moving/name/etc.

I completely agree with the comments so far. I moved here from Chicago and started in November, so I'm just about to be off of orientation. I am on the Maternity unit. The learning experience has been amazing and I do really enjoy the staff. At times I regret taking this job over one I had at home because I only know about two people in the city, but I remember that I won't be here long-term and that everything I have learned throughout this experience (including nursing and personal life) is invaluable. The residency program has also been a really great way to meet people. Definetly prioritize your needs and I think a shadowing opportunity would be hugely helpful.

Thank you all! This has been insightful! Appreciate all the feedback!!

Can you just clarify if you are paid bi-weekly? It says it's EXEMPT which immediately I thought of salaried? It's so confusing but then they said you can pick up shifts....
