Johns Hopkins Hospital Nurse Residency Program 2020

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi,

I have applied for and received an invite to interview at JHH on a pediatric unit. I figured since there are previous threads for past years I'd start a new one for 2020 hires/start dates! Lets all keep each other informed and updated through the process.

CONGRATS to all accepted. I recently received an offer and I'm a PA resident. I'm about 80% through my PA registration for state boards and feel it's a waste to switch to MD now especially as people have mentioned going through Maryland boards is a lengthy process. Any thoughts on this. I'm so close to finishing PA registration, I really don't want to start over

Hey there, what unit will ya be on? I can't add much to your question, as I am in Colorado (Compact state) but have had my license since June so didn't really have to consider what the most efficient way to get an ATT and test would be. It seems like others in this thread have stated that you should continue with your PA registration. But again, I don't have much to add, have you consulted with JH?

Hey Everyone!

I just accepted an offer for a new grad position at Johns Hopkins starting on October 5th! I'll be relocating from Minnesota and would love to get to know others in the nurse residency program! And if anyone is looking for a roommate let me know! I'd be interested in living with another new grad nurse! ?

Hey Alyssa,

CONGRATS! What unit will you be on? I start slightly after you on 11/2.

What areas are you looking in? I am lucky (or not lucky) depending on how you look at it and my roommate in Denver is moving to Baltimore with me (he works entirely remotely and always has).

We are looking at the Fells Point area (like many have suggested in this thread), the walkability and boogie-ness of the area is appealing since we are not from Baltimore.

@JRMR Thank you! And CONGRATS to you too! What floor will you be on? I'll be on a med/surg floor! I'm going out to Baltimore next week to look at some apartments. I'd like to live close to the hospital so I was going to look in the Fells Point or Loctus Point area!

@Alyssa2020 I’ll be on the neurosciences critical care unit. I have booked a trip yesterday for 9/20 so I can also knock out the occupational health appointment for my on boarding date when looking at apartments.

Sorry for the typos above, was typing on my phone before bed and then submitted and realized that this website wouldn't let me edit! argh!

Did any of you receive the occupational health self-schedule link? I know the dates are based off of your onboard date, but the packet with the offer indicated the link would be received within 3 days following accepting an offer. Just curious, as I want to make sure that on the days I am flying to Baltimore will work to fulfill this requirement.

I'm starting on 8/31, but it took a few weeks to get my occupational health link after I received an offer. FYI they are not doing the TB skin test, they are doing blood work instead, so you don't need to come back 48 to 72 hours later.

@bennanna Thanks for the info -- once you got the link - do you remember if dates and times were fairly widely available? I'll be there from Monday - Thursday later in September on the dates it indicates I am eligible to complete for my onboarding date, not sure if I should be concerned that they wouldn't have availability on those dates. I've never had an issue getting into occupational health offices in the past, but ya never know!

I'm surprised more people don't do the Quantiferon blood test. I've had both done within the last few years, but for my senior practicum, was assigned to a hospital that would not accept the Quantiferon. Everything I've read said it is a preferred method of testing (aside from cost).

Yeah it's really available! It's pretty much Monday through Friday. The appointments aren't very late, the latest is 1:30. I switched my appointment pretty easily! Be prepared to wait a while for the appointment though, I waited around 2 hours (not optimal when you need a urine sample LOL). I was pretty surprised that Hopkins just switched to the blood test because of covid as well.

Thank you! Good luck to you!

Has anyone been able to endorse their license easily coming from a non-compact state? Has MDBON given you the temp license and if so how soon did You receive it? At what point can you get the fingerprints? Do I just bring the fingerprint application to the locations listed and they do it electronically? Do you do this before or after submitting the endorsement application? Any advice greatly appreciated. Since they are not responding via phone or email at this time. SO FRUSTRATING! How can the BON be unavailable to the public during a pandemic crisis?? So ridiculous

Hey everyone!
