Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi everyone!!

I recently accepted a job at JHH in the nurse residency program on the MICU and I start February 06, 2017. I wanted to reach out and see if anyone else is starting then/ or around that date? Also what units, when your taking NCLEX and how your feeling nearing the end of school?! :roflmao:

Have an interview May 11 and I am nervous! Also im coming from out of state. Johns hopkins is my dream hospital! I hope I get this. honestly i never thought i would get an interview! Anybody know if we have to go through multiple rounds of interview? It would be pricey for me to keep flying back to Baltimore...

Nope ! One interview. I flew in and had my interview April 28th and 3 hrs later she called and offered me the position. Your going to do fine! I feel that they want to hire you and they see something in you! They just want to put a face to a name. As long as you don't screw up real bad you should get it. The Nurse manager was soooo nice and we just talked she didn't even ask me any hard questions! Just be kind and energetic. Everyone from the recruitment office and on the unit was great. I'm feeling like you in that I was so shocked that I got an interview and I can't believe I got the job. What unit are u interviewing on??

Thank you so much for the encouragement! And I am glad to hear good things about the interview too. I am interviewing for the surgical oncology units

Shalbal,

how long did it take for your to get your official offer letter??

Good luck with your interview msrxchef, you'll do great!

It took about 2 weeks for nurse recruitment to send me the official offer letter.

I would say take the time and effort to make your resume and cover letter really nice and professional. Customize resume and cover letter to match the position your applying for. Check for postings daily that new grads are eligible for. Follow up after u apply by calling nurse recruitment possibly. Apply 2-3 mo before grad.

Thank you for your suggestions!!

Good luck to you in your career.

Hi everyone! I heard about this thread from @erinicoleb08 on a post I made before. I'm going to be graduating in May and interviewed at the MPCU at Hopkins in March and got an offer so I'll be moving from NJ to MD! My start date's in July and I was looking for other people also starting at Hopkins this summer. I ordered a few pairs of scrubs (I probably should order more) and they came in last week! It did take about a month to come in so I definitely recommend ordering it soon after you get the instructions. Good luck to everyone interviewing, don't be nervous because they do their best to make you feel welcome, it's just up to you to present yourself and figure out if that unit is a good fit for you.

Congratulations and welcome to the Hopkins team! I have a friend who will also be on the MPCU starting in July! I will be starting in June in the Pediatrics department.

How do the scrubs fit?? Do they run big or small-I want to pick the right size

In my opinion they run big. I'm fairly small so I ordered my tops in xxs and they are still a bit roomy for my taste.

Erin - How was the interview? Did they ask you any competency/skill based questions?

My interview was more of a conversation to be honest.. very relaxed and enjoyable. We talked about the job a lot and the orientation etc. I don't live in Baltimore, I'm relocating so she was giving me suggestions on places to live lol. Maybe 2 character based questions she asked but it was soooo easy going and positive!! I think it just depends on whose interviewing you.
