Johns Hopkins Entry into Nursing (MSN) Spring 2021

Published

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to start a thread for the Johns Hopkins entry into nursing MSN program for January 2021 applicants. I just started my application this week, aiming to get it in well before the July 1st deadline. Anyone else?? ?

Also, if anyone previously accepted here has any application tips, please do share. Thank you!

I've read from previous year applicants said that their undergrad. GPA was 2.4 and they 4.0 on their prerequisites and they got in.  So, that gives us hope of being considered.  I hope we will post good news on here after a couple of days later! ?

Hi everyone. I have been pretty nervous as well because I am applying directly from my undergraduate program and I hope they understand that is why I do not have a Masters Degree or more professional experience. I keep checking my email but nothing yet!

I think you have a better chance than anyone who got a master degree because most nursing school looking for a fresh mind and fresh blood ?

@NurseNow1 I hope I have a good chance! Does everyone think we will be hearing next week?

Yeah I think it's this week and next week!

who knows anymore what they look for. seems like there is no particular characteristic about an applicant that makes a difference either way. All applicants can do is just apply, pray, hope and whatever happens is gonna happen. good luck to everyone who applied.

You're a little off on your numbers.  In general, the school gets 600-700 applications per cohort.  The cohort size is about 120 students; apparently there is some fluctuation, but nothing close to 300.  I've heard up to 150, but generally, it's about 120.  Thus, the acceptance rate is around 20%.

As for getting accepted, I cannot tell you much.  They are truly holistic in their approach.  I got in for Fall 2020.  I wasn't a bad student as an undergrad, but nothing impressive.  Grades are looked at more towards to see if you can handle to rigors of the program.  They are strict on the B- or better on those key science courses.  I think I had around 3.2 cumulative GPA as an undergrad with all my transfer work.  My post-grad underwork was a 3.78 GPA, which gave me around 3.50 GPA; around 150-semester units of work.

I have a feeling it's about your essays, letters of recommendation, and resume.  They want a particular candidate and those are items that let get to know to see if you fit.  I had very limited healthcare experience and exposure.

Yes, it's frustrating to try to gauge your odds of getting in since it looks to be more subjective than objective.

A big theme at Accepted Student's Day was inclusion in regards to diversity.  Think about that in your essays questions regarding those challenges you have faced questions.  The why do you want to be a nurse, be honest; especially to yourself.  Hopefully it's something other than money.

I would suggest attending one or more of the zoom information sessions.  You can ask questions.  Maybe establish a rapport with the admissions person.  You might be able to get feedback on your situation.

Also hope to see some of you next year.

I'm so concern of the email results tomorrow or Friday ? freaking out!

Keep in mind we it's possible we may not hear back till next week ? try not to stress out too much keep yourself busy that's what I've been trying to do LOL

If the last term was any indication, they'll send out decision notifications in batches.  Yes, it will take a few days for all the notices to be sent.

Have anyone heard from JHU yet?
