Hi Everyone,
I wanted to start a thread for the Johns Hopkins entry into nursing MSN program for January 2021 applicants. I just started my application this week, aiming to get it in well before the July 1st deadline. Anyone else?? ?
Also, if anyone previously accepted here has any application tips, please do share. Thank you!
1 hour ago, NurseNow1 said:Yes same here, I was offered a waitlist spot yesterday. Feeling hopeful and hopeless at the same time. Seems like JHU admitted more students than available seats and I don't think many waitlisted people have much chance of getting in. Good luck to us waiting ? (still have hope). Just curious, if we apply again for the next term, will we get a better chance of admission since we were waitlisted in the previous cycle?
I was waitlisted for fall 2020 cohort I reapplied and was accepted for Spring 2021 cohort. hope this helps, there is definitely still some hope!!
JHU is only strict on the prerequisites for those core science classes they list on the website; B- or better for those four classes. They like the 3.0 or better cumulative GPA, but it's not strict like some other programs. It may carry more weight for those who are recently bachelor's graduates.
JHU is not about your stats. There are people with 4.0gpa, masters, PhDs who get rejected. Yet, someone will be 3.0GPA, 3.5gpa in core science, no healthcare experience will get in. It is really about if they think you fit the candidates they want.
If you plan to apply again in the future, I recommend going to one of the information sessions. Talk to the admissions counselor/recruiter. Establish some kind of rapport. Ask if it would be OK to review your essays, or your transcripts, and so forth. They may be willing to help you. I know I went to an information session, address some concerns about my situation. Was given advice on how to address handle them. She even gave me her card and offer to review my application before I submitted it. She still recognizes me when I see at the school.
I don't want to mislead you in that is it not very competitive to get in. It's very competitive. The competition isn't about grades and experiences. It's those things to a degree, but holistic in what impression you give about who you are.
Also, the decisions go out in batches. And the decisions are mixed in those batches--accepted, not accepted, waitlisted.
If you're offered admission, pay attention to the deadline to commit. They are strict on that. The number of people who commit from the early decision pool does affect the number of spots for the regular pool. I had talked to one of the admission counselors about it last January at Accepted Students Day. Unfortunately, I did not discuss waitlist people.
If you did get waitlisted, the good news you're not out yet. To some degree, it's some of the worse positions to be in since you not in or out, so you have to prepare for both. Rember though, some people did not get accepted, There is something to be said for it.
Hi Catherine48-
I felt the same way about my undergraduate GPA because it was really bad. I applied for fall 2020 & got rejected. no wait list. I reapplied for Spring 2021 and got in. I don't think stats are everything. if JHU is something you really want, don't give up. Good luck to you.
Hey everyone!
A little late to all of this, but trying to reach out to other people that have been accepted. I received my acceptance this past Wednesday. I'm will be beginning a new career. I've been a firefighter/paramedic for the last 11 years. I'm excited to meet everyone in the program. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back!

This is the response I received.
“Yes, the decisions have been coming out in batches and we are hoping to have the applications that were submitted by July 1st completed before the weekend! “
There is still hope!
