Johns Hopkins Entry MSN Spring 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

I just completed my application for JHU Entry into MSN Nursing Spring 2020 application. I was waitlisted for Fall 2019 and was not accepted. Anyone else out there applying for a second time? Who has completed their application? Best of LUCK!

Congratulations to you all! It's very excited! Can't wait to connect with everyone. And @arami047x one of my acceptance letters did not get submitted till a few days after the deadline when I applied Jan 1st. It took them awhile to get back to me, but eventually they did!

Thank you! Yes I called admissions and they stated it was fine, but I still felt that it made my application look bad even though there wasn't much I could do at that point.

I just got my acceptance about half an hour ago!!! So excited! I also requested to join the facebook group!

I saw from your previous posts that you were waitlisted for the Fall 2019 cohort. Did you do anything different this time around to get accepted? I applied for the Spring 2020 cohort and have a feeling I might get waitlisted or flat out rejected due to my undergrad gpa ?

@arami047x Yes, I was waitlisted for the fall 2019 cohort. Nothing changed, GPA (3.41) was the same as well as same essay questions, extra curricular, etc. The only big difference is that my application wasn't fully completed in NursingCAS for the Fall 2019 cohort until February 12 (The regular decision deadline was Jan. 1, however I was having trouble getting transcripts so admissions said they would consider me if everything was in by February 15). This time around, everything was submitted and my application complete on May 23, with the Early Decision deadline being July 1. I think the first time around it was really just the fact that I was late for the regular decision deadline, and this time I made sure that I was early with the early decision deadline.

Is it just me, but is this program pretty easy to get into? Makes me question how the number 1 MSN program in the nation has such a seemingly high acceptance rate. Just reading through past years forums, feel like almost everyone gets in. Like has anyone actually gotten rejected from here? haha. Just curious as to what you all think

@nsynsy I have been getting a similar impression..maybe the applicant pool is just really qualified? Did you apply anywhere else?

I'm sure there are many highly qualified applicants, but I have seen questionable applicants as well haha. Yeah, I got into University of Colorado accelerated BSN (UCAN) and have an interview with RUSH Univ this Friday. How about you? I just feel sketched out about the easiness of getting in, even though I know Johns Hopkins is world-reknowned. Hope some current students can provide insight!

I was wondering the same thing. I think that they accept a lot of people due to the fact the tuition is so incredibly expensive, so they figure not everyone will end up choosing their university. I also imagine the applicant pool is pretty qualified. I figure just the name of the university, John Hopkins, deters people (like thinking to themselves they won't be able to get in so no point in applying). This is just what I've been thinking. I just got accepted and I had a 3.55 cumulative GPA with a degree in chemistry, and a 3.8 prerequisite GPA.

Hey everyone ? Do you mind sharing your stats whether you get in or not? I'm planning on applying for fall 2020! My Cum GPA is 3.57 with a nutrition degree and I have some healthcare-related volunteer experience. I just dont know if its enough

I have a 3.5 GPA in public health, I was waitlisted last year Fall and Spring. I still have not heard back yet and I'm beginning to feel like its going to be the same thing again this year Spring. I am also MD based. I already got into another school, but I really wanted to go to Hopkins.

I am almost certainly going to accept the offer from Hopkins, but I am wondering the same thing regarding value. The main criteria is that I want a diverse cohort (geographically, professionally) and I hope that Hopkins will get me there! In reading other places, seems like people are having these same thoughts. I also interviewed at Rush and enjoyed it.

I think your assuming that everyone who has applied (rejected, waitlisted, accepted) have all participated in this forum. This forum provides just a small snapshot of those who have applied to the program. And yes many people do get rejected even if they are qualified applicants.

I think there is a preference for applicants from the state of Maryland but most graduate schools tend to give preference for in state individuals. It is likely because they want their nurse graduates to continue to live/work in the state of Maryland.

I'm definitely not assuming, but I have navigated these forums long enough to get a sense of how competitive each program is and Johns Hopkins does not seem to be as competitive as most, based on numerous acceptances and very little "waitlists" I've seen. I've never seen a rejection noted, or maybe the one I did see was because the person didn't have a complete application. They also don't list their acceptance rates anywhere or note how many people normally apply like most schools do which was also suspicious to me.

However, based on what current students have been saying, it looks to be worth the price considering my future pathway. Still curious though haha, and so weird for me to actually question THE Johns Hopkins reputation ?
