Hey! I am starting to apply for the traditional BSN/MSN program at Johns Hopkins, and I was wondering if anyone else is out there freaking out about their applications!
Holler back!
I wouldn't say its necessarily a request for an appeal, but yes, you may request that your application is reconsidered by the committee if you are not accepted. I did this after I received my notice that I was not accepted, because I had a strong awareness that it was likely due to the fact that one portion of my application was not as strong as I would have liked it to be (cumulative GPA) and I felt that I could address that further. However, if you do attempt reconsideration be aware that you have to state your case very clearly. I don't know how frequently the committee changes their mind about previous decisions, but the Dean of Admissions went to bat for me and I was extremely lucky.
I don't have any further advice to give on that topic, other than to be sincere. However, as no one has heard anything yet regarding acceptances or otherwise, its a bit like putting the cart before the horse.
I know I'm putting the cart before the horse, but I will probably end up in your same situation...I'm glad that you got in after all that. Did you write to the Dean directly?
And really appreciate your input on this---I hope you dont mind if I bother you later about this, if needed. I didnt address my GPA too well in my application either...I did the squirrel thing (freeze, pretend its not there, and hope it will go away). My anxiety is pushing me to plan ahead for any possibility...heh, even though its not 12/15 yet.
I am pretty sure they leave you a voicemail -- well, this is according to last year's posts. :)
Anyway, Jane - don't proclaim a rejection letter! Be optimistic, anything can happen (good or bad, but let's focus on the good).
Does anyone know if they have deferrals for Early Decision? I know when I was applying for universities as a high school senior, many Early Decision and Single-choice Early Action schools had a deferral process (where they don't reject you at first - they just push you back to regular decision and reconsider you). I don't think JHU SON has this considering their notification time for regular decision is awfully close and they have a tremendous amount of applications to review, but I was just curious. I have never applied ED to a school so just wondering! :)
Good luck! Maybe tomorrow! :)
Hopkins_undergrad: my interviewer confirmed that Hopkins does sometimes "defer" (she used another word, but I forget now!) applications; if you applied ED for Accelerated, for example, you can ask to be reconsidered for Traditional, too!
I'm feeling so anxious--I jump every time my phone rings!

Both the deferrals and reconsiderations sounds very promising, although I suspect that they might be the same thing. If I find out, I'll post something here. Good idea, btw. Thanks Hopkins_undergrad for the support, and everyone else too :-) I have a box of truffles here that should help too, hehe.
I haven't heard anything yet, but I know that they're conducting phone interviews this week. GL on those!
Yeah, I was going to wait to post, but I know we said we would let each other know. I probably was one of the first notified because I sent in my stuff a tad bit earlier and my last name is near the top of the alphabet (?). Who knows, but I do believe they will spread out the calls in the next couple of days (considering that is what they did last year).
Fingers are crossed for all of you! :)
