Jobs During Nursing School

Hey everyone!

I've been accepted to nursing school this fall (2012) and was curious if any of you plan to try and pursue a medical job while in school.

I've heard of people taking on low-paying positions in order to familiarize themselves with the hospitals they hope to work at after graduation, and up their chances of being hired.

To any of you who have done this, or are thinking of doing this, any tips?

I live in the Atlanta area, and Grady Memorial is my dream dream dream hospital. Any tips on how to get my foot in the door while in nursing school?

Thanks so much!

Some hospitals hire nursing students after they finish their first semester as Nurse Techs doing the procedures they're learning in school. Some will hire students as CNAs. I'm currently looking for a job as an ER Tech to get my foot in the door at a hospital and make some money. But if that doesn't work out, I plan on looking for student nurse jobs after first semester.

What school have you been accepted to? You will need certification to get a tech/cna job so while it is still summer, I suggest you find a program so you can get that ball rolling. Otherwise most hospitals only hire nursing student after they have completed one semester of clinicals and you can wait til then. As a second semester nursing student you will probably be appreciated more for the job than a brand new tech/cna

I will say it is a great idea to get a job while in NS. Most hospitals hire their techs first before any outside GN's. In my class, we graduated last week, all the techs have jobs. And I don't know of any who didn't work as a tech during school who has a job yet. That being said, try to work PRN (if possible) so you can have time to study.

we hire people for unit clerks, techs and other areas who later become nurses. The good thing is we like to grow our own and we offer tuition reimbursement.
