Jobs in Chicago area for BSN new grad?

Published

Are there any hospitals or any facilities that isn't LTC or assisting living that are willing to hire new grads? I'm starting to lose hope here, I've tried countless of places and not a single phone call from anyone.

I originally thought it was my resume or cover letter, but I had both examined by a dedicated faculty staff from our school who creates professional resumes. I've tried behavioral health, prisons, rehabs, home care, and still nothing.

What area are you looking to work in?

No preference on the unit. I'd prefer BH, but I am not picky and willing to get my foot in the door.

Specializes in HH, Peds, Rehab, Clinical.

What's wrong with LTC or ALF?

It was hard for me to get a response from any hospital when I first graduated/got licensed also. I had a few interviews here and there but they always chose the one with more experience. It took about 4-5 months for me to finally get one but now other places that I have applied to back in January/February is JUST getting in contact with me. Don't lose hope! There are a ton of hospitals in Chicago hiring new grad nurses but it just might take some time for them to finally notice your application unless you have connections or worked on that unit as a tech. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the reply, would you mind telling us which facility and unit you got hired on? Also, did you have any connections?

If you are looking for behavioral health, I saw a job fair posted recently for a substance abuse/eating disorder rehab in Lemont that maybe be of interest to you. I can't remember the name...maybe check it out? I recently was offered a couple of positions in chicago. I'm a new grad as well! Keep your hopes up and be flexible!

Are u licensed? That may make a difference as well

I don't want to be too specific due to privacy reasons but it is one of the hospitals in the Illinois Medical District if you're familiar with that area. I did have a connection for the current job I'm at that referred me to the manager and I am so grateful for that. If you had any preceptors or clinical instructors that work at a hospital you want to work at you should definitely reach out to them for a referral or a recommendation letter. But even if I didn't have that connection I eventually got two offers from other hospitals that I have interviewed for that are both good facilities as well. I do believe that it is competitive out there for new grads but I don't think it's impossible to get a job. It can take some time so patience is important. Good luck applying and I'm sure it would work out! Chicago has a ton of hospitals so there is a lot of opportunities.

I got hired at saint Francis in Evanston and I had a few coworkers that were new grads as well. All the units hire new grads.

Applied, thanks!

That rehab place was called Timber Knolls now that I think of it. It specializes in substance abuse, eating disorders, and behavioral problems in adolescents and young women. Kesha (singer) was there recently lol
