Jobless in Seattle!

U.S.A. Washington

Published

I have been in Seattle, Washington since August and have applied to numerous hospitals/clinics and not one has called me back!

I have 3years experience from the UK-Gynecology and float pool in various departments. I have a BSN. I even applied for Residencies!

This is driving me mad. Sooo desperate for a job. I now work at a kids store...I hate retail!!! Does anyone have any advice or tips for me?

Same here im frm Daly City CA im almost 3 yrs in this place i didnt get a full time job im currently in registry but i worked once a month sometimes nothing, i applied in WA area i got a several interview from Providence & still waiting for the results:)

So you moved to WA without a job? Just wondering what methods everyone here used. I am currently out of state and trying to get a job in WA. I might have to move to WA because what is holding me back are the nurse recruiters assuming that I don't already have a license here.

After I do my applications I get voice mails telling me how to apply for a license or how they can't hold positions because the license process takes x months. I already have the license in my hand!

Gaius if u have your rn license valid in wa already then you should be able to apply to the position online and enter your license number for them to verify on the application. Seems like all the hosp only Take online app here and they will not talk to you on the phone. You apply and wait for their response, that's what's common.

Good luck.

Folks, there are ALOT OF NURSING PROGRAMS IN WASHINGTON STATE!

There is NO shortage of nurses in Washington State!!

Just go on line, and see how many nursing programs there are here.

In Spokane, (the east coast of Washington State, next to Idaho), there are TWO BSN programs, and ONE ADN program, with an LPN program as well. Right across the border from Spokane, there is North Idaho College (ADN program). There are also BSN programs in Boise, there is Idaho State College, and I believe that there is one more BSN program in Idaho, and an ADN program, and an LPN program as well. Spokane has two large hospitals, and two small hospitals, each of the smaller hospitals belong to the same chain as the larger hospitals. There are a few small outlying hospitals, but they are small- like 20 -30 beds each.

There are numerous ADN programs scattered across Washington State, as well.

In a nutshell, there are too many nurses in Washington State as it is, and an overabundance of nursing programs, and really not a huge amount of hospitals and hospital jobs.

You need to check out ANY area for job opportunities, obtain a job, (in writing), before you pull up stakes and make a major move.

If you move out of state, and find yourself unemployed, you have no one to blamd but yourself. The time of a REAL NURSING SHORTAGE is gone!

I am not trying to discourage you, but you need to look at the entire picture.

The moral of the story is, there is no shortage of nurses in Washington State. Don't complain when you cannot get a job.

JMHO and my NY $0.02.

Yes this is what I thought too but apparently in practice, this isn't the case. I do know what you mean, half the applications you can't progress without filling in your license number but I guess no one actually reads them in my experience.

Thank you lindarn. It is indeed frustrating. I see a lot of home health jobs and pediatrics if anyone is into that.

Any updates?

I just finally got a job. But I was only called by one place and that's the offer I took. Per Diem. Crazy. Still hunting though.

At least you have your foot in the door for now, Bulldog. I hope something more long term works out for you!

I had to Endorse my California License from California to Washington as well. It took quite a while but mostly because I wasn't educated here and I needed to get my Uni in the UK to send original transcripts.

All in all, it took 5months!!! And that's with me bothering them constantly! Good luck.

Getting a job here without a WA license might be tricky. I don't think any health care establishment will be willing to risk it. But give it a go anyway, I did. I got one offer with the condition that I get my License before they take me on. Luckily I did within the timeframe they gave me. Thank God.

Wish you all the best.

I just sent the required forms to my school with a payment. I worked in retail while waiting. Luckily I had Asst Manager experience so I got better pay than your average sales person.

Seattle is on my list of places to move to, but it depends on the job market over there. I'd be nervous moving to the other side of the country and not being able to find a job there.
