Thanks to all that answered my question for the child pysch interview :) I was offered the job!!
But I also have an offer on an ortho/neuro. Both sound great to me, however, I am worried if I choose the child pysch position (closer to home, better hours) that I am limiting myself for the future and will only work in pysch for the rest of my career (like losing clinical skills).
In the future I would LOVE to work on a peds floor/peds er/post partum. But I am a new grad so my options are sooo limited.
So...if I take the child pysch job, will I be looked over for other area fields of nursing in the future? I would love to hear opinions and stories. I am at a loss of what to do.
Thanks!!

At this point in your career I do not feel it would hurt for you to take the child psych position as it is a better fit for you.. Changing later might be tough it that is all you do for like 10 yrs but not right off the bat. Perhaps after getting comfortable in thi s job you could look at doing some prn in other areas if you still wanted.
Congrats of 2 job offers!!!
Thank you!

Congratulations! I work in Psych. I worked in Child Psych too. I am glad I chose to be a Psych Nurse. In the future if you want to venture into another type of nursing, just think of it this way, if the Nurse Manager wants you, she will hire you no matter what.....she will give you training and will have you oriented. If she dislikes you, even if you had a hundred years of nursing experience, she won't take you to work on her floor.

I just started in child psych after six years in medicine, cardiac, OR, and being a med surg nursing supervisor. I can honestly say that I feel like I have died and gone to nursing heaven! Maybe my situation is unique, but it doesn't get much better than child psych in my opinion. It might limit your options in the future. Most people on my floor don't want to leave. Congratulations on getting two offers.

Hi, I am so happy for you. It's great to get one job as a new RN... but TWO! I think that you should definitely take the neuro job. I am speaking out of some experience. I have been a practical nurse for two years. Instead of taking the low-paying hospital job, I took the high-paying home health job. It was great, but two years later, I don't have any clinical skills and only know about the few diseases my clients suffer from. I recently graduated as a RN and I have been offered a lot of money for LTC. I am going to refuse and look for hospital jobs because I know now that experience is invaluable. I definitely think you should take the ortho/neuro job if you ever want to work anywhere other than psych.
Thank you every one!!! I truly appreciate you taking the time to read my post and reply with your opinions and stories:) This site is awesome!!
I accepted the ortho/neuro position because I really want to be in the hospital. Although I love working with the kiddos... I asked HR if they would train me for PRN.
Thanks again!!
@Fireline: I am outside a huge metro which has its advantages but also a ton of nursing schools spitting out grads.
