Job offer on the spot

Published

Thx for all the helpful advice I have had so far on this forum.

I have had my share of rejection right after the interview. Still, I also have heard that there are situations wherein the New Grad RNs receive job offers right after the interview just ended. Since I've set up my appointments for other interviews for 2nd-choice hospitals, I have heard that some hospitals offer the job right after the interview and ask the interviewees to either accept it right away or no job offer no more. I'm just wondering how to react to it? I mean, I have high hopes for my 1st choice hospital but still insecured enough to yearn for an acceptance from other hospitals. Of course, I don't want to risk losing an acceptance from hospitals that accept me but what if my 1st choice hospital will accept me later on? How do you react to this kinda situation?

In short, I want to know what to do if your 2nd choice hospitals demand that you either accept or reject the job right on the spot while you're still waiting for results from your 1st choice hospital and you have very high hopes for your first choice? :nurse:

thx a lot :)

Ha, $10,000 not hardly.

You are gonna do a quicky EMR "how to", "watch one do one" IV start/blood draw, a quicky on tele. Then they will push a P&P manual at you and that's about it. If you get a REAL LIVE preceptor that can pass for mentally stable, that's when you start to have something worth some money.

Right to work/At will states allow you to resign or can fire you with no reason.. Has nothing to do with her contract.. She would still owe the 10K. Also since I have worked in several right to work states..not everyone is aware though you have the "Right" to quit still does not mean you do not have to give notice or be a NO rehire! The company policy can call for 2 weeks notice. I wish unions were on the east coast but since they have not been I just do not see them starting now when unions in general are losing so much in other fields.

I agree that times are getting worse instead of better. I feel like nursing is taking a huge step backwards instead of leaping into the future. So many people seem to not care as long as the sticky fingers stay out of their pie. Unfortunately, the fingers will get into your pie sooner or later. The 'your lucky to have a job' comments are true but at such a high cost. Wage freezes, work overloads, mandatory ot, unsafe staffing, undertrained nurses.......Ugh!!

Take the job! In my opinion, the research that needed to be done, should have been done prior to even applying with that hospital and definitely BEFORE the interview. You stated that it's your #2 choice. Well, what makes it your #2 choice? What makes your #1 choice, your #1 choice? You're a lot more fortunate than most nurses now, who can't even get a call back or an offer on anything.

If it helps any, sometimes your #1 choice isn't always that great? Just weigh the pro's and con's of each institution and don't always be fooled by the salary. I received a job offer years ago from my #2 choice at a bank. They offered me the job on the spot and wanted me to train immediately. The very same day, my #1 called and I took the job offer ($3 more an hour + hefty commission)!

Well, my #1 was a poor choice. They were a larger bank, with lots of bells and whistles. It was extremely stressful and I was darn near suicidal working there. Yes! I made LOTS of money, but it wasn't worth my pain and suffering. When I went crawling back to the #2 choice, they would not even see me. It happens.

If you didn't really want to work there, then you probably wouldn't have applied there to begin with. The grass on the other side isn't always greener. Take the job offer and congratulations because you got something that you wanted! You DID get your #2 and that's not bad at all! ;)

It seems to me too many nurses on this site seem to be second guessing job choices.. or they have no job choices....So maybe the ones who just are happy with a job are not posting????

Never pick a job based solely on higher wages.. that seems to always lead to more stress and increased disappointment.

Thank you everyone! I have a lot of thinking to do....
