Job advice

Published

Hello all,

I have been a nurse for 7 years and then some. Recently I became unemployed and trying to find employment which have been a very slow go. I have received several interviews, yet to hear ya or na. If there is anyone familiar with Vanderbilt in Nashville, a little input and information pretaining to their salary would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone can give a little advice on which state pays the most and the cost of living is not on pluto. I am pretty sure CA pays great, but the cost of living is on the moon. I am working through a travel company, only to still be waiting on an assignment. If there is anyone who can help or give a little advice, I am open for any and all suggestions. Thanks much

I use to work at Vandy as a tech for 3 years. What do you want to know?

Thank you for responding. If you had to choose, between oncology and 8N which area would it be? Why? I noticed you "use to work there" if opportunity or you need employment, would you go back? How is the pay? (and yep I am pretty sure over worked, under paid. No facility is exempt`) Nurse to patient ratio? Charting system? Forgive me if I asked to many questions Thanks

8north seemed to be a general medical surgical stepdown type of floor. I would only choose 8n because I do not like oncology.

But I am sure you may get some oncology type patients over there.

I wouldnt go back because I have used up the tuition reimbursement maximum and I wouldnt get any school paid for if I decided to go back for my masters, also there are positives and negatives to working there, sometimes management is a positive sometimes they are a negative. I big negative is the increase in parking rates!!

Pay is aroung 19.50 regular floor nurse, 21.50 ICU rate. $3.00 nights, 6.00 weekends, 5.00 added on holidays.

Nurse to patient ratio in the ICU is 1:2 or rarely 1:3. On the floor I believe it is 1:6 but it could be as little as 1:4 Im not quite sure. In the ICUs you may have two nurse assistants and probably the same on the other floors their job descriptions vary depending on the floor.

Its electronic charting. Its pretty simple. You will get the hang of it really fast.

Generally it is a good place to be at. But everyone has different experiences.
