JJC Spring 2011?

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

I posted a while ago in the Illinois section. No reply so I thought I'd see if it was just because its just not an active area or if there is no one on here from JJC. So anyway, anyone put in their application during the Aug 1st-15th open application? I applied for the night program and am currently waiting for an email saying they have accepted my application and when the TEAS test dates are.

I'd love to meet some other JJC students. If we get into the program we can set up study groups. By the way I've been through the first semester (long story, don't want to repeat what I've already posted here). I can share my experience.

If no one applies I'll assume the new applicants haven't found this great site yet:D

Your very welcome! :)

oop!! total class>>mon, tues, thurs, friday. wednesday was off for me. didn't mean to confuse you. all the times are correct on my previous most just typing too fast and got my days wrong. red=theory, blue=clinical.

wow, i made that difficult. i'm tired already, lol.

great, thanks!! i get it now! :yeah:

Thanks so much for all that info Lil wannbenurse...all so very useful!! It's so great to hear how much you love the program, and I can't wait to start!

You don't get the option to choose which times you become registered, it is pretty much predetermined for you. Although in most cases you can attened any of the theory portion times, they high suggest you stick to your assigned rotation.

I just had a quick question about that...I heard when you go to registration you pick a number and based on that number, you get a turn to pick which section you want to register for. Is that not correct? So, we have no say in what times we can register for? Thanks for your help!

Nope when you go to your orientation they will have a folder for you with the information you need to know( forms to fill out etc etc) and your schedule written out that you have to sign and turn back in after orientation is over...unless they have changed it but i doubt it and haven't heard anything about them changing the registration process. You are assigned to your clinical location mostly based off of where you live to make it as convienient as possible for you. Does that help?

So they stopped doing the lotto registration? Its doesn't really matter to me since i'm evening program but it does seem off that there is no chance of getting an option anymore.

Thanks for the info!

So do we just have to wait until November to find anything out? more waiting ugh:anbd:

I was quite nervous about the prospect of not being able to select our times, but if we can go to different sections, I'm okay with it. I prefer the 8am lecture. It's also nice to know that we will use the textbooks for multiple semesters. I wonder if they come in ebooks, as I love ebooks now.

Does anyone know if the current edition of any particular textbook is needed?

I have heard the same thing about registration. A friend of mine started the program last semester and said that when she showed up to registration her times and days were already set.

Yes. It has been that way for us for the past two semesters so unless they reinstated the lottery system your class times will be chosen for you, but like i said before most of the time you can go to the early or later lecture time if you'd like but your attendance for clinical topics and clinicals is set. You will be in a group of 7-8 other people for clinical topics which will also be your clinical group. As far as books go you will need a Mosby's Nursing Drug reference book, you really shouldnt need to have the newest edition as most drugs stay the same so finding a little older edition to save a few $$ shoulnd't really be a problem. You will also definatly need a nursing diagnosis book, my first semester we used a book by Carpenito i believe they changed it in the book store but i absolutely LOVE this book and i do have several others this one is BY FAR the best, like meds nursing diagnoese dont change so you could also check into a different book. Some of them are set up different so i just recommed buying one that you like best. You all have to buy the MED/Surg books(there is 2 volumes you will need both) by Lewis and i believe its the 7th edition. You will also need to get a medical dictionary, as will the nursing diagnosis book pick one you like dont necessarily has to be the one they recommend. Also, just a tip make sure your computer and printer are in good working condition you will be using ICAMPUS alot and printing different things out for class and especially when it comes to clincal topics and clinical and when you do our process paper. :jester:

LiLwannabRN,

Do you happen to know the cost of tuition per semester or year? It doesn't have to be exact. Just so I have a general idea to do some planning and such. :)

Thanks!
