JJC Spring 2011?

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

I posted a while ago in the Illinois section. No reply so I thought I'd see if it was just because its just not an active area or if there is no one on here from JJC. So anyway, anyone put in their application during the Aug 1st-15th open application? I applied for the night program and am currently waiting for an email saying they have accepted my application and when the TEAS test dates are.

I'd love to meet some other JJC students. If we get into the program we can set up study groups. By the way I've been through the first semester (long story, don't want to repeat what I've already posted here). I can share my experience.

If no one applies I'll assume the new applicants haven't found this great site yet:D

From what I've gathered, the 3 choices for clinical sites are St. Joe's, Silver Cross, and Adventist Bolingbrook. I'm hoping I get Adventist, since it's the closest to me.

Do we find out our rotation assignment on 16th as well? I hope I get Adventist as well.

Only two more weeks of waiting!

I hope I get Adventist as well. I had Silver Cross last time and it was very nice but I'm only 5 minutes from Bolingbrook.

I know that ****** told me that they assign your clinical location based on where you live. I don't live on that side of town so based on where I live she told me St. James in Olympia Fields or South Suburban Hospital would be possibilities for my area. I hope we at least get to pick which day we have clinicals since we don't get to pick anything else!! Does anyone know if we have to wear scrubs to class, or just to clincals? I saw a classroom full of nursing students Monday in scrubs!!

Really? Because my NURS 100 instructor told me those were the only 3 choices (Silver Cross, Adventist, and St. Joe's) so I dunno! She said that they get a list of everyone that made it into the program, and they can basically choose which people they want in their section if they live close enough to the hospital that their section is assigned to. For example, she is assigned to Silver Cross, so she can pick which students will be in her section as long as they live closest to Silver Cross. And I don't believe we can be the day we go to clinical, I believe that is also assigned to us just like the classes are. She also said we will be using the same text books as they are using this semester, so I think I'm gonna get a headstart and buy one book a week so I don't have to spend too much in one shot!! I don't know about wearing scrubs in the classroom, but that's a good question.

Well this was early summer during a nursng info session when they listed the different hospitals that were possible and named those. I don't know if it changes every semester or what. Is anyone else reading some of these threads that are discussing how hard it is for new grads to find jobs?? It's freaking me out, maybe I should stay off these type of sites?

Don't freak out....sure it's harder for everyone in this economy but it's not a permanent situtation. Keep in mind that we have 2 years before we graduated, and by then the economy will be in full swing and millions of nurses will retire at the same time hospitals will start hiring. And with the new healthcare legislation taking full effect in 2014, I hear the demand for nurses will grow incredibly. Just keep in mind the overall economy, and that it's hard for everyone right now. But I'm confident that by this time next year, it's gonna be a whole different story. The good news for us is that we'll be in school for the rest of the recovery and ready to go once things start picking up, which they will.

Oh, and by the way...another thing my NURS 100 instructor told our class is that all of the last graduating class had found jobs (the last one found a job just two weeks ago, and they graduated in May, so that's not too bad at all). Has anyone heard anything similar?

It's me again!! haha. Okay maybe i can help you guys out with the clinical sites and what not. Unfortunatly you do not get to pick your site..or what day you have clinicals. They do put you in groups based on your location. The hospitals that i know they have been using are Silver Cross, St. Joes, Adventist in Bolingbrook and also Morris. Your first few clinicals you will be in a nursing home (long term care facility) which hopefully will be close to where you are at. Once first semester is over, they will try to do the same thing but there is a chance you will have to drive a little farther at some point (ex. one of the girls i was in clinicals with last semester who lived 15 mins from silver cross was originally scheduled to go to Morris, but another student switched with her). Second semester you start going through rotations on classes, 5 weeks of Med Surg 1, 5 weeks of Med Surg 2, 5 weeks of OB and during that time you may be switched back and forth ( i started at St. Joes then went to Silver and Tuesday i go back to Joe's) You do not have to wear your scrubs to class. Once you get into second semester (and i believe 3rd and 4th) you will have to go to the hospital the night before clinicals to research your patient, so that is probably why you saw all the students with there uniforms on. As far as worrying about getting a job after school, i wouldn't worry about it too much at this point. The economy stinks right now and that's just something everyone has to deal with. Although you may not get the first choice when you first graduate as to where you work or what floor you get onto, take any opportunity you can and get your foot in the door. Any past graduates i have talked to have all gotten jobs fairly quickly after boards there is a light at the end of the tunnel!! Hope this helps!:redpinkhe

Thanks again for all the info...it's much appreciated!!!

No need to thank..i was in your shoes before to..and there are so many questions that get unanswered and things can be very confusing! and once again dont be afraid to contact me about anything you may need help with!:nurse:

Hello all! I was recently accepted into the Day RN program at JJC for Spring 2011. My preference was evening but I figured I could work things out if accepted into the day program. I realize now that attending the day program will put too much strain on my family. JJC told me that I could get into the evening program only if someone who was accepted into the evening program was willing to trade spots with me. So I thought that I would post in the unlikely event that someone out there has a similar situation as myself and would rather attend the day program.

Thank you
