JJC Spring 2011?

I posted a while ago in the Illinois section. No reply so I thought I'd see if it was just because its just not an active area or if there is no one on here from JJC. So anyway, anyone put in their application during the Aug 1st-15th open application? I applied for the night program and am currently waiting for an email saying they have accepted my application and when the TEAS test dates are.

I'd love to meet some other JJC students. If we get into the program we can set up study groups. By the way I've been through the first semester (long story, don't want to repeat what I've already posted here). I can share my experience.

If no one applies I'll assume the new applicants haven't found this great site yet:D

what are the ATI tests that you are all referring too second semester of the nursing program? Do you have to pass these tests with a certain percentage (80%)? Please inform...thank you

Hello Everyone-

You all sound so helpful and I have a quick question about 2nd semester instructors (I know we can't use names, but initials and I can figure out who you are talking about). I'm in the evening program first semester and have heard some not so great things about a few teachers, just hoping someone has something more positive to say!! Any help is great!!

We've only had one instructor so far.. and she's been fine. But to each their own. Not sure what kind of help you were looking for????

Don't get too worked up about teachers. You get who you get, the ultimate goal is to pass right? I'm in the evening program (2nd semester) and have been very fortunate to have had last semester and this semester (so far) fabulous clinical and theory instructors. I have heard bad stories about day teachers and one particularly difficult teacher who teaches 3rd semester. But I try not to get distracted with that stuff.

Good to know! It was just worrysome, because there were 2 particular teachers that I haven't heard anything good about!! You are right, the goal is to pass and you can't change who you get! Thanks, glad to know you are doing well! Keep up the good work skimstah!!

I am first semester too and I'm just taking it day by day. Only two people in my clinical group "passed" the first Theory test, thankfully me being one of them. I think the night group has been crapped on this semester because of that one instructor quitting at the last minute. We all sometimes feel that no one who is filling in really wants to be there teaching us. I'm not quite sure if this is a normal workload or if JJC's expectations are realistic but I'm working my butt off to get through this program and I'm pretty sure if I do succeed, I'll be an amazing nurse. It's a huge challenge, I don't sleep and I never see my kids but I tell myself this is four semesters. I can do four semesters.

Dancingkayla25- I was really surprised that the average test score for the first theory test was 80%. I did a little above that, but still didn't do as well as I had hoped. I'm really lucky to have an awesome clinical instructor who really helps us to keep all of the stuff we have to do this semester prioritized and on track. I am sure you will succeed, I know it is a lot of work though! Keep your head up and feel free to message me if you want, I know exactly how you feel!! It is only 4 semesters and you got here because you earned it and you deserve it!!

Thanks emerald1. I scored an 86% on my first Theory test. I'm know I should be happy with that grade but I can't shake the letter grade idea (lowest B possible). Did you say you were nights? You are lucky to have a clinical instructor who is keeping you all on track because I feel like my group was thrown into shark infested waters without life jackets . I'm holding my own overall though and I'm gonna DO THIS!!! Good luck and I'm sure I'll be talking to ya soon.

I had the teacher who quit last minute... All of us who had her are wondering what happened. I feel bad for you guys who should've had her because she was AMAZING! I can't believe only a couple of you guys passed the first exam. You'll get the hang of it soon. Take advantage of classes that Michelle and the rest of the NSL team has to offer, they are great tools. Take it day by day and feel free to ask any questions should you have any. Good luck guys =)

I'm in the middle of my second semester, and if there's one thing I've learned.....don't listen to opinions about instructors. Not only is it distracting, but most of the time it's meaningless because everyone has a different opinion. It all depends on how a person scores on that instructor's test. Bad grade=Dislike for teacher, Good grade=Best instructor ever. It's all a matter of opinion. Good luck and try not to worry about those things because honestly...it does not matter one bit because there is nothing you can do to change it.

May I ask how the first semester was for you? What topics are covered in the second semester?

First semester was very basic. Much of the focus was on the nursing process and how to "think" like a nurse. Believe it or not, many students had a difficult time with the concept. Being book smart does not always correlate to being a good nurse. I don't remember many actual medical topics...I know diabetes was studied. It's only been a year but my brain is on overload so pardon my terrible memory. Nursing school becomes one big blur of information that eventually comes together as you progress. It will make sense to you soon if you are in the program. Good luck!
