JJC Spring 2011?
First semester was very basic. Much of the focus was on the nursing process and how to "think" like a nurse. Believe it or not, many students had a difficult time with the concept. Being book smart does not always correlate to being a good nurse. I don't remember many actual medical topics...I know diabetes was studied. It's only been a year but my brain is on overload so pardon my terrible memory. Nursing school becomes one big blur of information that eventually comes together as you progress. It will make sense to you soon if you are in the program. Good luck!

JJC Spring 2011?
Thanks emerald1. I scored an 86% on my first Theory test. I'm know I should be happy with that grade but I can't shake the letter grade idea (lowest B possible). Did you say you were nights? You are lucky to have a clinical instructor who is keeping you all on track because I feel like my group was thrown into shark infested waters without life jackets . I'm holding my own overall though and I'm gonna DO THIS!!! Good luck and I'm sure I'll be talking to ya soon.

JJC Spring 2011?
I am first semester too and I'm just taking it day by day. Only two people in my clinical group "passed" the first Theory test, thankfully me being one of them. I think the night group has been crapped on this semester because of that one instructor quitting at the last minute. We all sometimes feel that no one who is filling in really wants to be there teaching us. I'm not quite sure if this is a normal workload or if JJC's expectations are realistic but I'm working my butt off to get through this program and I'm pretty sure if I do succeed, I'll be an amazing nurse. It's a huge challenge, I don't sleep and I never see my kids but I tell myself this is four semesters. I can do four semesters.

I just got in and start my nursing classes in the fall. It's really not going to matter who you had for your science classes. What will matter most is what you have retained from ALL your science classes going back to early high school through now. There are questions about earth science, basic biology, genetics, a&p, chemistry, etc. Too much info to cover for one test. I would just go over the basics of each topic and not worry too much more about it. You pretty much either know it or not. I do remember having difficulty remembering things about chemistry bonds and losing and gaining electrons (you might want to study up on that). Other than that, just reviewing would benefit you the most. The nursing program looks mostly at your reading score and your overall score. If you do really good in reading (in the 90's) and do fairly well on everything else (say 70's-80's), you're score should fall somewhere in the 80's. This is considered a good score and as long as you have finished most of your prereq's and have done pretty well in those classes, you should be good to go :) Good luck. Let me know if you have any more questions! I know how stressful it is just TRYING to get into the program!

It's hard to tell you exactly what will be on your test but things I remember were basic algebra, basic geometry, know your grammar and punctuation, and basic chemistry (review covalent bonds, periodic table, etc.). If you know your basics in reading, math, and grammar you'll be fine on these areas. Science is a little harder to study for because it covers such a wide range of topics. I studied HARD for the TEAS, mostly math, and received an overall 87. I scored highest in Math and Reading, lowest in Science. I had all A's and one B on my prereq's. Good luck :) You CAN do it!!!!

Nursing Student with a Drug Addiction
I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't say SOMETHING to SOMEONE! Hopefully he will be drug tested before the situation gets any worse.

MDC TEAS scores for 2011
Most schools will look at your cumulative TEAS and how well you did on the reading portion plus your GPA. I got in with an 84 on my TEAS with a 92 on the reading portion with a GPA of 3.6. That's at my school though....VERY competitive. All schools differ. Good luck :) Just don't give up!!

Freshly Accepted @ JJC!!!! :-)
I have six of my own :) and my husband sometimes works nights too. We seem to figure it out though. My family is pretty helpful so I'm hoping everything will work out fine. I think not knowing what it's going to be like is the most intimidating part so far. I'm trying to read these boards but it's freaking me out a little too much. One step at a time, I guess!!
