I have been staring at this 2nd semester schedule non-stop since Thursday afternoon!! It just looks soooooo very complicated and I'm already super freaked out! Got through 1st semester but it was just too close for my comfort!! I was really beating myself up all semester for not getting A's on everything, but at the end of the semester I finally accepted that 92% and 86% was a-okay with me!! Forget the letter grade!!! Passing is passing! Hey Lil.... is 2nd semester the same as 1st in regards to the test preparation coming mostly from power points?

I do not believe that 1 is better or worse than the other, it's all just a matter of personal choice. I definately think that you should consider the financial burden you would be placing on yourself. I personally was lucky enough to have my parents pay for college the 1st time around, I have a BA in Social work, but decided to do a career change. I applied and was accepted into both an ADN & BSN program. I opted for the ADN because there was a $35,000 difference in the cost!! There are plenty of BSN completion programs out there if you choose to continue, plus if you are already an RN you job will likely have some form of tuition reimbursement to help with the BSN/MSN you want to get. I have even seen some ADN to MSN programs in my area. You are still young, don't stress about it. Try to incur as little debt as possible, so you're not up to your eyeballs in loans as a new grad. The economy is in the crapper right now for sure, all across the board. But it will perk up eventually. This decision is not a permanent one, you have the option to continue to add to your education as much as you want to. Just because you go for the ADN now doesn't me that you can never get your BSN or MSN.

Yes I am in section 005, I know the instructor told me to ask the other group (the ones with yellow papers) if anyone wanted to switch, but none of the yellow group wanted to switch. I guess I have to figure it out eventually.

Hey people, so today I got my schedule and I have clinical topics on Tuesday from 8:00 to 9:50 and Clinical on Wednesday from 7:00 to 1:30pm. Is there anybody out there who has a 10:00 clinical topics and Thursday clinical who would like to switch with me?? My clinical sites are Silver Cross and Salem Village but I'm willing to go anywhere to do this switch. I just can't be in class everyday at 8:00 my 2nd grader doesn't start school until 8:45!! This entire process is about to turn my hair grey!

Well, I can help with #3 Hodgkin's= Say it like Haaj-kins. The "Hodg" part should rhyme with Lodge. The rest is up to the nurses out there!

FYI: Usually with a basic background check the info provided is very basic. It will list the offense, the outcome and the date. When you are applying to any state for clearance or a license ANY CONVICTION will "pop" on your background. If you didn't know about the check, you didn't rectify it or go to court, so a conviction was probably entered against you (guilty by default for not showing up). DO NOT PANIC!!! Usually the state is only interested in drug crimes, domestic violence, crimes against children or the elderly, and medicare/ medicaid fraud. Most other things will still "pop" but they just need a statement resubmitted to the state explaining the situation. If you can say "I didn't know, I've cleared it up, here is the proof".... everything will be fine. I've seen CNA's, childcare workers and police officers get cleared with charges like shoplifting >$5000, battery, and even misdemeanor drug possession. There's a form you will be provided to make your statement and I'm sure if it's just a bad check to the China Garden Buffet you will be fine!! RELAX!!! It will work out!

Wow, I didn't realize that I may be able to attend the night lecture if I am in the day program. I was kinda freaking out because I cut my schedule to part time and I work Wed & Fri 9-5. So, as long as I get a Thursday clinical I should be OK, if I can opt to go to Friday night lecture. I can arrange to go in late on the few test days. I feel like we have been waiting forever!! It will be so good to get some definitive answers and schedules etc. Can't wait till TUESDAY!!! BTW: has anyone else noticed that proir to TEAS & selections all EVERYONE used to talk about in class was applying, TEAS, & everything nursing.... Now NOTHING!! I no longer hear any conversations about it!? I used to not be able to set foot in Chem, micro, or even the halls without hearing nursing, nursing, nursing!! But ever since those emails went out, not a word!! (Shrug) IDK... maybe it's my imagination??

Don't take it personally sweet_b. I have a BSW from a pretty prestigious university but doing a career change and community college here I come!! The bottom line is ADN/BSN both take the same NCLEX, and make the same $$$$ (initially, within a few dollars)

That is strange that all 5 schools rejected you with such good grades and scores. Usually ADN programs are more difficult to get into just based on the number of people applying vs. the # of actual spots available. Don't worry, just do the ADN program, there are more and more RN to BSN completion programs that are becoming shorter and even some 100% online. I'm in IL and I know of 2. University of St. Francis in Joliet IL and Illinois State University in Normal IL both are REAL schools (not those for profit online schools) and their BSN completion programs and 100% omline, and take 18 months to complete. It's better to just begin ASAP so you can get to your goal. Good luck!! I got into both ADN & BSN programs that begin in January I chose to attent the ADN for cost purposes ($35,000 difference:eek:)

I think you also have to realize that yes the economy is terrible right now, and ones flexibility, connections and experience do have a lot to do with getting a job after graduating. Just think about how many people you have worked with in your other jobs who were not so great at doing their jos, or communicating, or behaving professionally. Nursing school does not automatically make you a great interviewer. If you give off bad vibes, employers run..period. Qualified or not. I don't deny that things are rough right now, but I think if you're open and willing to do WHATEVER shift, floor, etc necessary to begin with you will be fine. My school graduated about 80 this past June, and according to the liason who helps our students prepare for boards, and prepare resume's etc the last grad just found a job this month!! June graduation, boards passed as early as July... 3 months for 80 new grads to find jobs.... Not bad!! Right?? I was freaking out about it also but I figure that things will change quite a bit in the 2 years it will take me to finish the program, and face it... nursing positions will be in need FOREVER!!! Sickness is a HUGE part of life!! Just keep pushing and believe Nursing is DEFINATELY NOT the new real estate!!

Well this was early summer during a nursng info session when they listed the different hospitals that were possible and named those. I don't know if it changes every semester or what. Is anyone else reading some of these threads that are discussing how hard it is for new grads to find jobs?? It's freaking me out, maybe I should stay off these type of sites?

I know that ****** told me that they assign your clinical location based on where you live. I don't live on that side of town so based on where I live she told me St. James in Olympia Fields or South Suburban Hospital would be possibilities for my area. I hope we at least get to pick which day we have clinicals since we don't get to pick anything else!! Does anyone know if we have to wear scrubs to class, or just to clincals? I saw a classroom full of nursing students Monday in scrubs!!

I usually see people at school in either white pants and maroon tops or white pants and light blue tops. I think the people in the blue tops may be radiology students, because when I went to the nursing information meeting there were maroon lab coats there and the lady conducting the meeting said that those were for the nursing class that started this fall.

OMG!!! I got into the day program!! And a friend of mine got into the day program too!!! Woohoo!! Congrats to all!! :yeah: They accept 88 total... 64 in the day program and 24 in the night program. I got into USF also so now I guess I have a decision to make!!
