JJC Spring 2011?

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

I posted a while ago in the Illinois section. No reply so I thought I'd see if it was just because its just not an active area or if there is no one on here from JJC. So anyway, anyone put in their application during the Aug 1st-15th open application? I applied for the night program and am currently waiting for an email saying they have accepted my application and when the TEAS test dates are.

I'd love to meet some other JJC students. If we get into the program we can set up study groups. By the way I've been through the first semester (long story, don't want to repeat what I've already posted here). I can share my experience.

If no one applies I'll assume the new applicants haven't found this great site yet:D

Ok, even though it was only two years ago I can't seem to remember my schedule. I think to get over the shock of failing by three points I had to block out that semester of my life:lol2:. So here is what I remember but I could be wrong.

Nursing 150 is your main lecture class. Everyone has to take it. Its always at the campus. I believe that it was every Mon and Fri. They had a 8am class and then one right after that at like 10am. The rest of your schedule is based on what section you register for. I think I went to class four days a week, two days with clinical teacher, two days with lecture. Clinical times depend on where you are at. When we were in the classroom, it was only like 8-12 or maybe even less. When we started working at the hospital it would be longer, maybe 630ish to 1pm. You also have to factor in research time. We would have to go to the hospital on our own the night before to research are patient, get info from their charts, etc. That way when we spoke with the instructor we had an idea of what we needed to do for the patient that day.

If you are not a cna you do have to take nursing 140 but it is only for part of the semester. Once you pass the final for that class you don't have to do anything else extra.

You really can't tell what your schedule is going to be until we register. You can choose your 1,2&3 choices when they send our our packet but if you get a bad lottery number your choices might be filled up by the time its your turn. I actually got to go first last time:) Your clinical times, hospital assignment, clinical teacher and whether or not you have the early or later lecture class will all be assigned at registration.

Its frustrating not to know our schedule but I think it is fair the way they do it. I heard its the same for every semester.

I had to talk to my boss yesterday before I told anyone else. He knew I had applied but I think he was hoping I didn't get in:lol2: I don't plan on quitting, can't afford to, but I will need extra flexibility from him. He has given me his blessing so i'm hoping I will be able to maintain the motivation to get through this and the following three semesters.

Thanks for taking the time to explain all that...it was so much help!! I guess I'll have to wait a month to know for sure, but at least you gave me a good idea of what to expect! Thanks again! :D

Thanks for explaining how this process will work. I look forward to getting the packet in the mail so I can see what my options are.

I was looking at the program and it appears we will only taking 2-3 classes. I am already a CNA, so that means I am taking 150 and an online pharmacy class. Correct? I looked at Eresources and it appears 150 will be Mon and Fri again. I hope to get the 8am class so I can go to work after. Then is clinic on Tue and Thu? I am just trying to figure out how we will be in school four days per week. Clinic hours are 6am to 2pm?

I guess, I can wait until I get the packet it the mail, but I cannot keep from wondering.

I just called JJC to ask about the schedule, and it was pointless. She basically talked in circles to say just wait until Nov 16th.

I don't understand why we have to wait an entire month before we can register. Registration for every other class is already open. I really need some time to plan my schedule at work and plan before/after school care for my son. I would also like to know exactly how much the classes will cost in addition to the textbook and any other material we will need to purchase so I can budget for that. Oh well.

I went on the bookstore's website and found out that 150 requires 6 books costing $550 ! I wonder how many we will actually use because I hate buying books I never ended up cracking open.

There was only one thing that I bought off the required list that I wish I hadn't. They had us buy a packet of drug cards instead of a drug book. It was to hard to keep organized. I ended up going out and buying drug book anyways. Other then that I pretty much used everything. Looks like my fundamentals book is outdated and has been replaced. Bummer, its the most expensive one.

Amarie, your right about the classes. If its still the same then you only take 150 and then half way through the semester we will start the online pharmacology. The pharm class goes until half way through the next semester. Kind of weird.

I found my old class schedule. I had theory mon & Tues 10-1150, then clinical topic (classroom lab)on tues 10-1150, clinicals (hospital) 8am-12pm. Before we started going to actual clinicals (2months in) we were in the classroom lab both tues and thurs. All coming back to me now, lol

BUT, that was just one of the schedule options, so thats a good example but you can't really say until you register. Waiting until Nov 16th does stink :(

Thanks everyone for all the info... I can't wait to get the schedule so I can get my plans in order.

My family is going to be in shock, because they are used to me doing EVERYTHING.........

I may try to buy my books on Amazon:)

So, I'm a little confused! You had theory AND clinical topic on Tuesday from 10 to 11:50? Or did you mean Thursday for clinical topic (since you mentioned Thursday somewhere in there!). So you went a total of 3 days a week (Mon., Tues., and Thurs.)? Sorry, just trying to understand....and I really appreciate all of the info you are giving us!

Seems like I already have one of the books from my NURS 100 class that I'm taking this semester (Calculating with Confidence), so at least I won't have to buy that one!

oop!! total class>>mon, tues, thurs, friday. wednesday was off for me. didn't mean to confuse you. all the times are correct on my previous most just typing too fast and got my days wrong. red=theory, blue=clinical.

wow, i made that difficult. i'm tired already, lol.

Congrats future JJC nursing students. I am halfway through my second semester there and a i love it! I saw that many of you had questions about the schedules. This is how it was for us 1st semester (and also 2nd). You don't get the option to choose which times you become registered, it is pretty much predetermined for you. Although in most cases you can attend any of the theory portion times, they highly suggest you stick to your assigned rotation. You will have Theory 2x's a week Clinical Topic 1x a week and then your clinical day. My classes last semester as an example were.. Mon-theory 10am-12pm Tues Clinical Topics 10-12 Wed- off Thurs- for the first few weeks you will have clinical lab mine was 8am-12p( then you will start clinicals) Fri-theory. Clinical times can vary depending on where yours are at, they range from start times of 6:30 -2 or 7am-1:30p. You will use ALL of the books in your required list they give you. The good thing about them is that you will continute to use those same books throughout the whole program with the addition of a few such as OB and PEDS. Mid semester you will start an online pharmacology class that will either run into the first weeks of summer, or will restart in the fall. If you don't have your CNA, the day that you have clinical topics you will stay after for a few hours to gain that knowledge, if you do have it you get to go home a little early =)

Feel free to ask me any questions! i will try to answer them to the best of my knowledge. It is going to be a very exciting but also very stressful time, but you can do it! Congrats again to all!:yeah: and if there are any of you out there that did not get accepted..DO NOT GIVE UP!!!!:nurse:

thanks lil wanna bRN.... that was very helpful!
